INTRODUCTION

PD1096, The National Building Code of the Philippines and it serves us a guide for
safety not only for the users but for the structure itself. It is the Code for the measurements
and considerations that a building or a structure must abide. However, due to problems like
the budget for the building, it seems to be that there’s still structures that turns a blind eye to
this Code.

Identifying which structure and which part of the structure does comply and violate the PD
1096, The National Building Code of the Philippines.
DATA AND ASSESSMENT

DESCRIPTION:

A 3 storey Jolibee building that is situated in 907 Padre Noval St, Sampaloc, Manila,
1015 Metro Manila. It is built this early 2019 as it starts a new branch of Jolibee in Sampaloc
Manila. It is contemporary designed structure with the trademark features of Jolibee
buildings. The height per floor is approximately 4 meters each.

ASSESSMENT/ EVALUATION:

The stairs with a 23 steps, Run (.25meters) Rise (.175meters) Width (1.8meters). PD
1096 Section 1207. Stairs, Exits and Occupant Loads. (e) (1) Width. Stairways serving
occupant load of more than 50 shall not be less than 1.10 meters. (2) Rise and Run. The rise
of every step in stairway shall not exceed 200 millimeters and the run shall not less than 250
millimeters. The stairs in this building is set to be on standards.
DESCRIPTION:

ASSESSMENT/ EVALUATION:

PD 1096 Section 1207. Stairs, Exits and Occupant Loads. Every exit shall discharge
into a public way, exit court or exit passageway. Passageways shall be without opening other
than required exits and shall have, walls, floors and ceilings for the same period of fire
resistance as the walls, and floor and ceiling of the building. And as it clearly stated , the fire
exit is enclosed with walls not in an open space like this.

PD 1096 Section 1207. Stairs, Exits and Occupant Loads. (5) Stair and Ramps (5.2)
Ramp slope the slope of a ramp shall not exceed 1 in 8. Ramps shall be roughened or shall be
of approved nonslip materials. (5.3) Handrails. A ramp with a slope exceeding 1 in 10 shall
have handrails. This ramp height is 1.3 meters with 12 meters long, and it abide to the Code
even considering the Handrails for it.
DESCRIPTION:

A 2 storey house that is situated in BLK 26 Lot 52 Phase 2A Alta Tierra Homes,
Brgy Olaes, GMA, Cavite. It is built in 2012 as a part of the Row Houses in Phase 2-A of
Alta Tierra. The height per floor is 2.5 meters with a roof pitch of 2 meters.

ASSESSMENT/ EVALUATION:

PD 1096 Section 1207. Stairs, Exits and Occupant Loads. (5) Stair and Ramps (5.2)
Ramp slope the slope of a ramp shall not exceed 1 in 8. Ramps shall be roughened or shall be
of approved nonslip materials. Height of ramp is .40 meter and 1.5meters long, it clearly
violates the Code for ramps having only 1 in 8.

A 2 storey house that is situated in BLK 26 Lot 52 Phase 2A Alta Tierra Homes,
Brgy Olaes, GMA, Cavite. It is built in 2012 as a part of the Row Houses in Phase 2-A of
Alta Tierra. The height per floor is 2.6 meters with a roof pitch of 2 meters.

ASSESSMENT/ EVALUATION:

The first four steps, Rise (.30meter), Run (.30meter). The rest of the steps, Rise
(.2meters) Run (.25meter) Width (1meter). PD 1096 Section 1207. Stairs, Exits and
Occupant Loads. (e) (1) Width. Stairways serving occupant load of more than 50 shall not be
less than 1.10 meters. (2) Rise and Run. The rise of every step in stairway shall not exceed
200 millimeters and the run shall not less than 250 millimeters. The first four steps exceed
the standards of the Code

ASSESSMENT/ EVALUATION:

PD 1096 SECTION 80 Ceiling Heights. (a) Habitable rooms provided with artificial
ventilation have ceiling heights not less than 2.40 meters measured from the floor to the
ceiling; provided that for buildings of more than one-storey, the minimum ceiling height of
the first storey shall be 2.70 meters and for the second storey shall be 2.40 meters. With the
height of the first floor 2.6 meters it violated the minimum ceiling height of 2.70 meters

ASSESSMENT/ EVALUATION:

PD 1096 SECTION 806 (a) Minimum sizes of rooms and their least horizontal
dimensions shall be as follows: (1) Rooms for Human Habitation. 6.00 square meters with at
least dimensions of 2.00, (2) Kitchens. 3/00 square meters with at least dimension of 1.50
meters (3) Bath and toilet , 1.20 square meters of space per person.

ASSESSMENT/ EVALUATION:

NBCP SECTION 3.01.04: Locations on Property Eaves (a) over required windows
shall be not less than 75 centimeters from the side and rear of property line. Since the
distance between the eave and property line is 2.7 meters it abides the Code.
CONCLUSION
With the sample structures that is assessed, it shows that not all structures abide to the
Code, But it is
