 Sandi, C., & Haller, J. (2015). Stress and the social brain: behavioural effects and

neurobiological mechanisms. Nature Reviews Neuroscience, 16(5), 290.

Sandi & Haller (2015) researched the impact of stress on the lives of people and suggested that

persistence stress can undoubtedly affect the neurobiology and behaviour of human beings. The

study found out that people might show symptoms of irritability. They might become hostile and

violent in typical situations. The research was secondary. The authors suggested that the human

brain, when exposed to extreme stress, might completely stop functioning. It is because structural

and molecular changes occur within the brain. The critical points of the research show that

stressed-out people might show symptoms of social withdrawal or aggression or both. Early

stressors are responsible for dysfunctional development within the brain. My research topic is also

related to the chosen article, and therefore, the article helped gain insights regarding the

relationship that exists between stress and social life. It was understood that stress causes biological

changes within the brain, and this has a ripple effect on the behaviour.

 Mahmoud, J. S., Staten, R. T., Lennie, T. A., & Hall, L. A. (2015). The relationships

of coping, negative thinking, life satisfaction, social support, and selected

demographics with the anxiety of young adult college students. Journal of Child and

Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing, 28(2), 97-108.

Mahmoud et al. (2015) identified the relationship that exists between social anxiety among

college students and its impact on their thinking styles, conducted a study. The focus of the article

was on young college-goers. This group has been chosen because college-goers are more likely to

feel stressful due to peer pressure. The study was conducted among 257 undergraduates within the

age group 18-24. An online survey was done, and the variables were measured using the

Multidimensional Life Satisfaction Scale, Cognitive Checklist-Anxiety, Brief COPE inventory

and other related scales. The findings of the study suggest that anxiety is directly related to

maladaptive coping mechanism along with excess negative thinking.

Further, it suggests that anxiety affects the lifestyle of undergraduates, as they get

overwhelmed with negative thinking. The study finally concluded that future research is necessary

to decrease the level of negative thinking among college students. Hence, it was possible to

understand the strong predictors of stress.

 Rodrigues, J. (2019). Do you find basic human interactions stressful?. Dubai: Khaleej

Times. Retrieved from https://www.khaleejtimes.com/lifestyle/do-you-find-basic-

human-interactions-stressful

Rodrigues (2019) wrote the chosen newspaper article, and the topic is directly related to my

research area. The focus is upon anxiety and its effect on social interaction. In this article, the

writer presented several examples to point out that anxiety-related symptom such as sweating,

faintness and trembling are common among students, and it hurts their memory. Students face

issues while dealing with everyday situations because of social anxiety. According to the writer,

people with social anxiety cannot implement a plan, and their actions are fear-based. However, the

impact of anxiety might vary from person-to-person. The affected people might feel troubled in

their professional life as well. For instance, while dealing with colleagues and during team

meetings, individuals lose confidence and self-belief. The condition can be improved by the love

and cooperation of closed ones. Hence, the chosen newspaper article increased my awareness of

stress and anxiety.

Zain (2019) published the chosen article in Khaleej Times, and the matter is similar to my

chosen area. Again, the writer focussed on youngsters because social anxiety is rampant among

the youth. One of the risk factors suggested by the writer is trauma among youngsters. The

common symptoms include mood disturbances and severe depression. The result is a social phobia.

The cause of the issue, according to the writer, is before judgements and perception of people. The

overall performance of teens and adolescents are affected. Biological, hereditary, psychological,

as well as environmental factors that might cause depression.

Moreover, people with anxiety are likely to hold themselves back in social situations, and the

impact is enormous on their mental health. The article reported that around 300 million individuals

are affected by depression. It is now a worldwide concern. Lastly, the importance of support

systems such as doctors and family members is paramount to help improve the condition.
