Chapter I

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Korean Pop star was now a factor where in some of the students in TVTS Main Campus was

addicted to. This results in their desire in the language of Korean community and they are

conscious in the word translation of it. Somehow, it affected their behavior in a way that their

advance knowledge they have usually used it in their oral communication. Nevertheless, it may

also helped them to be locally and internationally adapt foreign language, traditions and customs

especially in Korea.

As stated in http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/koreanlanguage, Korean was the official and national

language of the both Koreas: The Democratic People Republic of Korea and the Republic of

Korea with different standardized official forms used in each territory. It was also one of the two

official languages in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture and Changbai Korean

Autonomous Country of Peoples Republic of China.

According to http://pinoytrending.altervista.org/department-education-teach-korean-language-

public-high-schools, Department of Education and South Korea signed an agreement to learn

Korean language through Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL). A foreign language

skill through Special Program in Foreign Language was made to provide learners with

opportunities that would make them both locally and internationally competitive. The agreement

was signed by Education Secretary Leonor Briones, Undersecretary Dina Ocampo, Korean

Ambassador Kim Jae Shin and First Secretary Lee Jincheol.

Korean is the language used by Korean people and the official and national language of Korea,

the Democratic People Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea as stated in

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/koreanlanguage. Department of Education (DepEd) is the chief

formulator of Philippine Primary and Secondary School Systems. It has its headquarters at the

DepEd complex in Meralco Avenue Pasig City according to

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Department_of_Education(Philippines). Department of Education

is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for ensuring access to

promoting equity in and improving the quality of basic education. However, public schools or

state schools are generally primary or secondary schools mandated for an offered to all children

without change funded in whole or in part by taxation. The term may also refer to public

Institutions of post secondary education as lifted in http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_School.

As lifted in http://www.manilatimes.net/depeds-special-foreign-language-program-sflp-in-

Spanish/200950/, the Philippine Government’s official Gazette record the DepEd’s Special

Program of Foreign Language (SPFL) as having been indicated in SY 2009-2010 and

implemented in selected public secondary schools. Starting with the Spanish, French and

Japanese language, the DepEd added German the year after end Chinese in SY 2011-2012. The

SPFL offered beginnings in senior secondary level is for students who have demonstrated

competence in English and are capable of learning other foreign language.

Nowadays, some students in TVTS are addicted to Korean artists and they want Korean

language as one of the subject that will going to teach by teachers. This research aims to give

new knowledge to Senior about Korean language. It helps students to learn the different benefits

and factors of Korean language in daily living. Thus, the researchers are prompted to do this

research to determine the good and bad impact of Korean language to every individual.
Theoretical Framework

According to DJ Yap (2011), Koreans are becoming an ubiquitous presence in the Philippines

with tourist arrivals estimated to reach the one million mark by yearend up by 30 percent from

2010. In addition, according to Korean Ambassador to Manila Hye Min Lee, Koreans studying

or working in the country now number more than 100,000. He stated “This is a sign of the strong

and growing people-to-people relations between Korea and Philippines which help promote

mutual understanding between us”.

Conceptual Framework

The major concept of this study is to focused on the factors affecting the interest of Senior High

school in Korean Language.

Statement of the Problem

The main objective of this study was to know how many students who are engaged in Korean

language in order to determine the possible effects of it to their daily living and the factors that

affect their interest. Thus, the researchers try to quest for the reactions of these students based on

the questions. Second is to discover the effects and the factors affecting the interest of students in

Korean language.

Specifically it seeks to answer the following question:

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of the following:

a. age

b. sex
c. interest in Korean Language

d. knowledge in Korean Language

2. What are the factors that influence the interest of the students in Korean Language?

3. What are the effects of the Interest of Senior High School students in Korean Language on

their attitude towards the Filipino culture?

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The main purpose of the study is to know how many students are engaged to Korean language.

The study considered the personal information of the respondents. The researchers limited the

study to one hundred forty-four students in among Senior High School in Tuao Vocational and

Technical School Main Campus by using the Slovins formula. Each of the respondents will be

given a questionnaire to answer.

Locale of the Study

The study was conducted at Tuao Vocational and Technical School.

Significance of the Study

This study was beneficial to the following especially to those who are engaged to Korean

language.

Students- They are the beneficiaries because it will gave them information about the effects and

benefits of Korean language and it also helped them to find job when they want to apply in

Korea.
Teachers- They will also learn this language as they teach this into students and also they may

easily communicate to Korean people.

School- It also benefits the school in a way that they may locally and internationally competitive

in such foreign language competition.

Definition of Terms:

Korean Language- a term that is going to study to identify if there is any effect on the attitude of

students toward their culture specifically Filipinos.

Filipino Culture- this is an important thing to be consider because it may be affected due to the

alteration of the interest of individuals.

Senior High School Student- these individuals has a great role in the study. They are the one who

will going to response in the given questionnaire to find if their interest in Korean Language has

an effect in their attitudes in their culture.

Chapter II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Factors Affecting the Interest of Individuals

Metro Manila CNN Philippines (2017), the Department of Education says it is all set for the full

implementation of the K to 12 programs which means more rooms for over a million incoming

senior high school students. The Korean Embassy and the Department of Education (DepEd)

signed an agreement which adds Korean Language as one of the second foreign languages

electives. Under the pilot implementation, Korean Language will be taught in 10 selected high

schools in Metro Manila.

According to DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, “This is a continuation of very long years of

fruitful relationship including in the field of Education between Korea and the Republic of the

Philippines”. However, because of this Korean Language, this may also lead to all Filipinos to

easily seek opportunities and for all the individuals to have knowledge about the Korean Culture

especially their language and for them to lessen their ignorance.

a. To prepare the graduates in a linguistically and culturally diverse global workplace

According to DepEd, the Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL), first implemented in

2009 aims “to prepare the graduates in a linguistically and culturally diverse global workplace”.

The programs helps learners develop skills in listening, reading, writing, speaking and viewing

that are fundamental in acquiring communicative competence in a second foreign language.

These aims of department encourage students to fully accept the presence of Korean Language in

their education. This help student to be more competitive on foreign language contest worldwide.

Preparing students support them to be more literate to other language though it may affect their
culture negatively and positively, and to maintain a good relationship to Korean country. In

addition, adapting Korean Language is caused by the migration of Korean citizen and the

adaptation of Filipinos to Korean dramas and pop star royalties.

b. As stated in http://dramablooms.blogspot.com/p/korean-wave.html?m=1

Whether going to school or work, one can easily notice the effects of Korean sensation in the

Philippines. Aside from Korean music that can be hear in different radio stations as well as on

the stereos or CD player of public vehicles. Korean dramas also reached a great fame in the

country having their own time slot in different local TV network. Indeed, Filipinos, especially

teenagers are so engage with this Korean fever which continues to spread throughout the

country. People now are even downloading movies that connected to Korean stars. Because of

this, Filipinos are almost adapting this kind of behavior; some of them are already performing the

usual actions of Korean people and singing music in Korean language. However, the sudden rise

of this fame is already spread within the Philippines and worldwide. In addition, Korean dramas

attract in the eye of individuals especially women because of their physical appearance.

c. According to Yu (2008), the exceptional and captivating cultural flow of sudden rise in

popularity of Korean popular throughout Asia is now called “Korean wave”. This term refers to

the phenomenon of the Korean popular culture which disseminates mainly throughout the mass

media and is enjoying high popularity of Korean as Korean wave. This term is generated when

Filipinos adapt Korea in their country. This adaptation of Korean is spread within the

Philippines and continuously getting larger ,that even students and workers are addicted due to

unique way of styling and wearing trendy clothes .In addition ,not only the way of fashioning
,but also the dramas and also the Pop star royalties of Korea that captivates the interest of

individuals.

d. Another factor why individuals are addicted to Korean language is the uniqueness of it. As

lifted in, https://gomadnomad.com/2011/03/05/why-korean-is-the-world’s-most-interesting-

language, what makes it unique is that the fact that basic consonants were created in replication

of the human pronunciation organs, imitating the shapes of the organ of articulation at the

moment they are pronounce, the reason why students are addicted because of the unique

pronunciation of it that makes the students more interested in the language. The way of

pronouncing was different and somehow extraordinary when it is hear. In addition, it also take

time to learn this language due to the stress and the syllabication of it that is hard to learn by a

common non Korean people.

e. In addition, Korean dramas also affected the interest of students. As stated in,

www.hellokpop.com/list/why-korean-drama-are-so-addictive/, when you look into the global

entertainment scene, you can realize that there very few countries who have been able to make

an impact other than the developed countries. One of these countries is will be South Korea,

which has been continuously gaining traction with all its Korean dramas in the world. This is

much evident with many K-drama news that have been smashing headlines, for instance, just in

April this year, one of the biggest Korean entertainment companies, YG entertainment, has

jumped into the wagon to formally venture into the drama industry with a new company called

YG Studio Plex in April this year. However, Korean country have a strategy to come up with a

beautiful drama that easily catches the attention of citizen specifically students. Because of these
dramas, it makes the Korean country more develop and continuously gaining more attraction to

other people from other country especially in Philippines. The following are some reasons why

Korean dramas are attracted:

a. Unique Concepts and Genres

Unlike television dramas in other countries, Korean dramas do not usually repeat the same kind

of setting over and over again. It is much more than just a family drama. Today, Korean drama

production companies continue to explore unique concepts after concepts, genres after genres.

The popular ones will be fantasy, historical, rom-coms, time-travel and most current one-science

fiction apparent in latest TVN drama circle.

Korean dramas are made by unique concepts that make it more attractive to the viewers, and the

augmentation of the sceneries along Korean that make it more beautiful. The productions of

these kinds of dramas really have a great impact in their country to discover also the beautiful

spot in their country, for example in Jeju Island, the Korean houses and also the trademark of the

country. This makes the country more famous if ever.

b. Impactful Characters

Instead of giving any random kind of distasteful role of characters the writers of the Korean

dramas is in such a careful way that everyone is engaging and plays a significant role of point or

twist in certain scenes. This makes it to the list of reasons why Korean dramas are addictive

compared to others. A character of every story makes it more beautiful and interesting to watch

because of the awesome characters, viewers are induced to learn their language. In addition,

some of the students in today’s generation are attracted to some famous Korean artist like, Lee
Min Ho, Gong Yoo, Park Bo Gum, Nam Joo Hyuk and others, and also Korean pop stars such as

EXO, BTS, Bigbang, Twice and Girls’ Generation.

c. Relatable to Audiences

In fact, anyone who is a K-drama fan would probably agree the problems or situations that are

usually presented in Korean dramas are related to the life today. When the viewers are able to

relate with such problems or situation themselves that personal moment become a first that they

might see their own reflections of themselves. In a nutshell, Korean dramas are mostly if not

always, created in such a way that the audiences are able to relate to, and most likely to find the

addictive factor. However, unlike harmful addictions this type of addiction is positive or most

would call as self-realization. Usually why people love watching is because they are related to

what the movie presently. They usually get happy or somehow sad because of the memorable

experience they may remember. However, they may also find solutions in such a particular

problem that they may encounter in their real life. In fact, there are some scene that is somehow

the same on what they are experiencing which is really interesting to watch.

d. Beautiful OSTs

Music is a powerful essential factor in Korean dramas, which was called OST (Official Sound

Track). The OSTs help viewers to get absorbed into the stories easily and relate to the emotions

that are required to build up to that particular scene. In fact, Korean dramas OSTs are now

widely seen as a growing market itself, as there have been more and more K-Pop idols coming

out to sing for Korean dramas in the recent years. Hearing soundtrack also catches the attention
of viewers. This is because of the beat and the tune of the music that makes go with the flow.

Because of this OST the viewers feel what the main character feels.

Benefits of Learning Korean Language

According to Akli Hadid (2014), there are several to learning Korean. Professionally, speaking

Korean can be an asset. Academically, speaking Korean can open a lot of doors. Socially,

speaking Korean can lead to a lot of friends and connections. Professionally, speaking Korean is

not the main factor that will convince companies to hire you. Experience and degrees count more

than the ability to speak Korean. For example if someone has more experience and higher

degrees, chances are Korean companies will hire him even if he does not speak Korean.

However, coupled with experience, Korean can be a determining factor in the hiring of someone

for Korean companies. Also when Korean companies decide to go on hiring spree, those with

little experience but advanced Korean skills have better shot at being hired. Academically,

speaking Korean can open a lot of doors when it comes to research and publications. While most

conferences will expect foreigners to do their presentation is English, a foreigner with excellent

Korean skills can surprise his audience by presenting his paper in Korean. However, if a

foreigner’s Korean skills are average the Korean audience might interrupt him and tell him to

present in English, in language in which the presenter might be more comfortable. Foreigners are

also encouraged to publish in Korean as long as their papers are carefully proofread and they

have interesting content worth publishing. A lot of foreigners think that merely having a foreign-

sounding name and writing a paper interesting enough. However, most publications tend to read

content carefully to see if there is enough substance o be published. Socially, Korean skills can

be an advantage as long as foreigners respect the culture and etiquette as Korean expects, and
that they have pronunciation clear enough to be understood. Koreans also tend to have little

tolerance for mistake in Korean, and will suggest as switch to English if the foreigners Korean is

not easy enough to understand. However, once a foreigner’s Korean language skills are fluent

enough and that foreigners respect Korean culture and etiquette, they can make a lot of Korean

friends with whom they can converse in Korean. Such friendships can help foreigners adjust to

Korea while getting to know the local population. However, Korean skills are not mandatory to

get a job, to do academic work or to make Korean friends. Many Korean companies will hire

foreigners who don’t speak Korean, a lot of academic circles and universities will invite scholars

and professors to lecture in English and Korean will befriend foreigners who don’t speak

Korean. Perhaps the most important thing is not to overlook the importance speaking Korean can

have foreigners. While Koreans might encourage beginner learners by praising them for saying

simple phrases in Korean, very few Koreans praise foreigners for being fluent in Korean. Many

foreigners who are learning Korean wonder if they can ever reach a level where they are fluent

and can function in Korean society. That is perfectly possible, but it takes a lot of time and

patience. Koreans tend to welcome foreigners are by no means privileged in Korean society. To

conclude, I would say that it’s worth learning Korean, or at least trying one’s best to learn

Korean, as long as one does not expected o become privileged member of Korean society, or

expect incredible job offers, or to be in the spotlight for speaking the language. I also encourage

foreigners who speak Korean not to try to attract too much attention to the fact they speak

Korean, as Koreans tend to dislike such calls for attention.

Positive Effects of Korean Language

Applying for jobs

As stated in https://targetjobs.co.uk/careers-advice/working-abroad/341528-working-in-south-

korea, graduates usually find work prior to entering the country to avoid any problems getting a

visa. The application and interview processes in South Korea are similar to those used in the UK.

Some companies used a CV and covering letter, while others use an application form.

Application forms may be in English when applying to multinational companies, but don’t

assume this will be case. Networking and making contracts are also important features of job

hunting in South Korea.

Graduates with some Korean language skills may choose to sit the KLPT (Korean Language

Proficiency Test), which focuses on the practical communication skills needed to live and work

in Korea. This helps you assess your communication ability when applying a job.

In finding any job abroad it is required to know and learn their traditions and cultures especially

their language. Language is so important because it is your key on how to communicate people

in a particular place you’re into. Over numerous countries, Filipino’s nowadays are more

interested in going for a work in South Korea, besides the beauty of this place, the opportunity

and salary are worthy. But it was just like UK and other countries before you could finally

through here. They are very strict in all application forms needed by a worker before finally

entering and be part of them by culturing theirs. In applying of course it was really needed that

each has good communication skills in English. But anyhow, an individual must still know the

basic words of the place he/she applying in.

Negative Effects of Korean Language

According to Antonio P Contreras, ‘Filipino at this time and age would be a backward step,

considering that all the other countries in the region are now encouraging their citizens to learn

how to speak English and other language (Korean Language). One has just to look at the horde

of argument. He also write this for those who assert that Filipino is simply Tagalog, and that

insisting that Filipino be spoken all over the country is an internal form of imperialism over other

regional identities that should be resisted. It is this continuing resistance to the Filipino

Language, whether stemming from unfamiliarity or from contempt, which provides context to

why we have to still devote a month to remind ourselves that there is a national language after

all. We have to be reminded always, since we constantly face the threat of forgetting it, even as

many may continue to ignore it. While this may be the failure of how Filipino is taught in basic

education, it does not negate the fact that we do really have a big problem when the manner our

national language is taught is itself problematic. He stated that it is a fact that Korean language is

the big problem to all individuals. They may patronize the other language instead of their

national language, he also said that Filipino is simply Tagalog but many students are ignoring it.

Importance of Korean language to Filipino

Korean tops no.1 visitor to the Philippines and Korean popular culture has become doubtlessly

visible in local environment. It also interesting to see how Korean commodities have gained its

popularity among Filipino consumer and more Korean brands are introduced to attract local

market. Aside from all these cultural phenomena, however, it is not widely known about Korean

community in the significance. Korean community includes their languages for them to

communicate to other people, somehow it help Filipinos culture in a way that when they go back
to their country they can tell to their fellow that Filipinos are hospitable, kind, courageous and

polite. It can also help promote the unique products of Philippines through communicating and

also its help Filipino individual to be more socializing to those foreigners specifically Koreans

because they have the most number of people who visited Philippines.

As lifted in http://asianjournalusa.com/koreans-invade-the-philippines-p3017-114.htm, they

came without warning, trickling in almost unnoticed until there were too many to ignore. It

seemed, all of a sudden, that South Koreas were practically everywhere in the Philippines –in

malls, universities, the country’s top resorts, and even on local television shows. By now, Korean

is in almost all of the Philippines major urban areas. From up north in the cool city of Baguio to

Davao City down south in Mindanao, Korean restaurants and groceries, bearing Korean-

language signs, can be seen. They have established everything from churches, hotels and resorts

to gigantic manufacturing facilities. There are even Korean-only suburbs in Cavite. Korean has

invaded the Philippines, and Filipinos for the most part are welcoming them with open arms. It is

not hard to see why. Less than four hours away by plane from Seoul, the Philippines have an

English-speaking population known for hospitality, a significantly lower cost of living, and some

of the most postcard-perfect beaches in the world. At the same time, Koreans are being in

buckets of dollars into the Philippines both through consumer spending and direct investments.

Riding this trend, the tourism department in 2003 launched its English as a Second Language

Tour Program, which combines language activities with vacation trips. While also targeting

Chinese and Japanese students, Koreans make-up the bulk of its customers. Not long after, the

Philippines embarked on a targeted marketing campaign backed by a $3.2 million annual budget

to attract Korean tourists. Part of this campaign is a Korean language tourism website and a

series of advertising materials, including a 30-second television commercial, showing Korean

actress Eugene Kim enjoying the beauty of the Philippines. Honeymooners and businessmen on

holiday, says Samaniego of the tourists, and the country’s beaches and golf courses and the main

attractions. Visiting the Philippines is made easier by the country’s lenient visa rules and the

increasing availability of direct flights between the two countries. Jeremy Baik, General Manager

of KJL Tour Leader, says that the Philippines is easy to sell to Korean tourists because of its

good beaches and resorts. They look for vacation spots on the internet and compare pictures of

Boracay, Phuket and Bali. Boracay, with its white beach and emerald waters, easily wins,” he

says.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methodology including the research design, locale of the study,

population and sampling distribution, research instrument, data gathering procedures and

statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

The research utilized descriptive-correlational survey design to evaluate the difference on the

interests of the students in Korean Language and in their Filipino Culture. It assessed the socio-

demographic status such as gender and age and also the psychographic profile of the

students/respondents including their knowledge and interest in Korean Language.

Descriptive correlational survey was a processed of discovering the direction and magnitude of

two extent variables.

Population and Sampling of the Study

The respondents of this study came from TVTS Main Campus. Random sampling is used to

select randomly the one hundred forty-four samples from the different strata of the population.

Research Instrument

The instrument will be used is questionnaire. The content was about the effects and factors of

Korean Language to senior students and their attitude towards the Filipino Culture. The
questionnaire is labeled as 4-Strongly Agree, 3- Agree, 2- Disagree and 1- Strongly Disagree.

Interpretation will be used as follows;

Weighted score Description

3.45-4.00 Strongly Agree

2.45-3.44 Agree

1.45-2.44 Disagree

1.00-1.44 Strongly Disagree

Data Gathering Procedure

Before conducting the study, the researchers will go to perform on several procedures to have a

well-organized study. The first step before going to conduct the study is to make a request letter.

Upon approval, the researcher retrieves the request letter to the Principal as well as the advisers

and other faculty members. In administering the questionnaire, he researchers will use the vacant

hours to avoid distraction of class discussion. The student will be given enough time to

completely answer the question. After data gathering, the researcher now collects it for tallying

the scores and to apply the statistical treatment to be used in the study.

Research Locale

This study was conducted at Tuao Vocational and Technical School Main since the chosen

respondents are the senior students of the school.

Statistical Treatment for Data

Responses to the questionnaire by Senior High school students was statistically analyzed with

the data requirements of the study Descriptive statistics such as frequency count, mean,

percentage and adjectival rating are considered.

PRESENTATION, INTERPRETATION, AND ANALYSIS OF DATA

This chapter presents the findings of the study in illustrative tables and the analysis of the data as

well as the interpretation based on the statistical treatment of the data.

This table 1 presents the profile of the respondents in terms of their gender. In addition, then

researchers utilized the Slovins formula to equally get the number of students in each section of

Senior High School.

TABLE1 FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION

Thus, the table implies that there are 77 female respondents and 67 male respondents among

Senior High School.

TABLE2. FREQUENCY AND PERCENTAGE DISTRIBUTION

This table presents the computed frequency and percentage of the data. To identify the

percentage of who strongly agree, agree, disagree and strongly disagree the formula used is

Percentage: P=n/Nx100, where n is the number of respondents who answered the choices, N the

total sample population and quotient will be multiply to 100.

the ideas given as an interest in Korean language. Among the 144 students 81 or 56% answered

that Korean language catch their attention and there are only 8% who are really strongly agreed.

Somehow there are 15% who said that Korean language did not catch their attention.

Furthermore, it explains that all the statements listed are somewhat effective to be a reason why

students are engaged in Korean stars, customs, and movies. It also implies that there are less

students who are not favor to Korean language and they are not interested to it.

students towards Filipino Culture. Somehow, it proves that Korea has a big factor that influences

the interest of teenagers especially among females.

TABLE 3 presents the computed mean as well as the adjectival rating of each item. In

computing for the weighted mean, the researchers used the formula of weighted mean.

Weighted Mean Formula; (x1+x2+x3+x4)/n

Table3.1 presents the computed weighted mean based on the assessment in interest on Korean

language.

Question Strongly agree disagree Strongly MEAN Adjectival

number agree disagree rating

5 39 156 72 216 22 44 12 12 2.97 AGREE

AVERAGE/ WEIGHTED MEAN 2.81 AGREE

The table implies that all the ideas falls on the “Agree” rating with a mean of 2.58, 2.78, 2.92 and

2.97. Items no. 2 and 3 has the same weighted mean. Therefore, the interests of the students is

somewhat affects their desire based on the computed mean of 2.81 which lies on “Agree”

wherein the following ideas are positively gets their attention to fully engage on Korean

language as well as their customs, movies and other Korean stuffs.

Table3.2 presents the computed mean based on the assessment on knowledge in Korean

language.

Question Strongly Agree Disagree Strongly Mean Adjectival

4 7 28 23 69 74 148 40 40 2.98 DISAGREE

AVERAGE/ WEIGHTED MEAN 2.03 DISAGREE

Based on the following statements listed everything lies on the “Disagree” rating which means

generally all the respondents do not have enough knowledge about Korean language, history and

the usage of it. Therefore, students must learn the basic ideas of Korea to fully engage

themselves into it.

Table3.3 presents the computed mean based on the assessment on the factors affecting the

interest of students

Question Strongly Agree Disagree Strongly Mean Adjectival

5 40 160 61 183 28 56 15 15 2.9 AGREE

AVERAGE/WEIGHTED MEAN 2.62 AGREE

The table shows that there is a factor that is not influential to the respondent. As shown on the

table above item no. 2 lies in “Disagree” rating with a mean of 2.37, this means that they are

more admired Filipino artists rather than Korean. This implies that they are proud of being a

Filipino. Somehow, the other item lies in “Agree” rating. In general, the computed weighted

mean is 2.62 which falls in “Agree”, in this manner although they prefer Filipino if the other

factors very influential to them there is still a possibility that they are engage to Korean.

Table3.4 presents the computed mean based on the assessment on the positive effects of Korean

respondents in terms of age, sex, interest in Korean language, knowledge in Korean language?

What are the factors that influence the interest of the students in Korean language? What are the

effects of the interest in Senior High School students in Korean language on their attitude

towards Filipino culture?

After distributing the questionnaire, the researchers used the frequency and percentage

distribution to categorize the number of students who response to the choices and their profile of
the respondents and weighted mean to determine the adjectival rating in which the computed

mean falls.

Conclusion

As the researchers conducted the study and gathered the data, it has been found out that the ideas

listed in table 1 of the questionnaire was agreeable by the respondents, therefore it was the

reasons why they are engaged to Korean movies and willing to learn the Korean language. On

the other hand, although they are interested to Korean it has been discovered that respondents do

not have enough knowledge about the said country.

Furthermore, it has been shown from the computation that majority of respondents are addicted

and somewhat fan of Korean Popstars.

Therefore, the conducted study was successfully done due to the outcome of the said problem. It

has been discovered that the respondents are addicted to Korean language because of the interest-

cause and factors that is necessary to the alteration of interest of individuals.

It has shown that students are still a fan of Filipino culture even though majority of them are

addicted to Korean language, the students are still prefer to patronized their own culture, the

Filipino culture.

Recommendations

It has been discovered that Korean language has an effect on the interest of students. It also show

that there are also factors that affects these interests. At this point, students must learn foreign
language such as Korean in order for them to have knowledge about Korea because based on the

conducted study it shows that students do not have enough knowledge about the said country.

Moreover, teaching students with different languages help them internationally adapt foreign

customs. As these learnings are learned it will support them when they go abroad for vacation or

job hunting purposes, in such ways it will give them higher standard for them to have high salary

and to improve the economy of Philippines. This adaptation of teenagers in different country is a

great help to the country as long as students will not forget their native language.
