for studying VSM's in the health sector.

In marking your current Assessment 2, I have noticed that some of you still
neglect to familiarise themselves with the Assessment Brief. This unnecessarily
results in a much poorer grade and does not reflect the student's true
potential.
I'm therefore providing a summarised version of the MGT603 Assessment Brief
3, which is set in a “Hypothetical Problem”.

Consider yourself as part of a team responsible for managing the

operations of an emergency department of a public hospital. The
emergency department has received feedback from patients suggesting
that the patient wait times need to be improved. The value stream map
of the current operations is shown in the attached diagram accessible

You have been tasked with improving patient turnaround time by

reducing the current time to half. To complete the task you are required
to identify the various System Archetypes that affect the operations of
the hospital and the emergency department itself and based on the
archetypes, develop a future State Value Stream Map of the emergency
department.

In this assessment, you require to focus on the scenario and:

1. Uncover the complexities in operations management generally
2. Identify and critically analyse the “key themes” and “intended and unintended
consequences”
3. and Recommend/propose holistic solution(s) that will optimize the operations
of the emergency department without compromising the performance of
other function of the hospital by using Systems Thinking lens.
In summary, in this assessment students will need to: Try solving
"Practical Problem” by “using Systems Thinking Tools call System
Archetypes” combined with “Value Stream Mapping”.

 Assessment 3 should be a maximum of 2000 words and needs to be submitted no
later than 11:59 PM (Brisbane Time) on Friday, 30 August 2019.
 Assessment 3 should be written according to “academic writing guidelines”.
 You require to make significant references to the subject material and substantial
wider reading. A minimum 5 academic (books, peer-reviewed journal articles) and 2
other sources/references (newspaper articles, trade publications, websites, and etc.)
must be used.
 All referencing should be in the APA Style Guide which also can be found as
follows: APA 6th ed Referencing Guide_1_.pdf

 Both in-text citations and the reference list at the end of the report is required.
 References to “Wikipedia” or similar unsubstantiated sources will not be
accepted.
 Please make sure to check the Marking Rubric as it will provide you with a good
understanding of the important elements and criteria in Assessment 3.
