INTRODUCTION

Profile is a short description of someone's life work, Character and other representations
that define an individual or organization. It is Avery important aspect of social networking
technologies for different forms of interaction among friends, family’s peer-groups and so
on. Information that identifies a person in terms of Name, age, sex, place of residence,
state of origin, contact phone number and so on are stored to create a profile for such
individuals. A profiling System is required to create and manage this information for
members that subscribe to the ideologies for string up such system. The profiling system
is made up of profile resource. The profiling system to be developed in this study objects
and store. Is a social mechanism that enable people to have interpersonal communication
and collaborate.
Profile resource: Is used in the management of the collection of user data on the profile
system. The groups of tables that store profile definition, site-terms and named
expression are kept in the profile store.
This research is aimed at developing an electronic profile system with special
consideration for the HND II Students in the Computer Science department of Abdu
Gusau Polytechnic. The subsequent section in this work will include my findings in the
preliminary studies review of relevant literatures, analysis design and implementation.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The manual student’s profile has a lot of pitfalls therefore making the present system
ineffective. Some of such problems include:
i. Difficulty in making multiple copies
This is one of the problems with manual system because after printing or
duplicating the copies reproducing few more copies like one or two will go through
similar process as the initial stage. This is more demanding.
ii. Delay in producing the profiles
There used to be a delay in the process because different individuals are involved
in the process as the document pass through different stages of publishing. The
producer or printer in-charge may also have other commitments of higher priority.

2
iii. The problem of editing mistake in the profiles after print out
After print out of the original copy, it is usually difficult to correct mistake discovered
after producing.
iv. Manual Distribution: The existing system requires extra effort of one or more
individuals in sharing copies to different members of the class.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The aim and objectives of the system are so numerous and have a greater impact on
student’s profile and therefore should not be over-emphasized. Some of the objectives
include the following:-
i. To develop a computerized system in keeping the student profile.
ii. Provide means for encouraging contacts among the graduating students
iii. To provide a better replacement for the existing paper photo Album.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study very importance because of the expanding technical options for
communication on the Webpage, so that developers will tend to focus only on issues such
as Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) syntax, page layout the latest and the goal of
innovation is to continually improve the quality of Web making sure that the process of
planning analysis, design implementation promotion and innovation are ongoing.
i. Webpage allows developers to shear information in the web's elements and
ensure that the information in the web meets user needs in term of both content
and interface.
ii. The Webpage also identify new technologies that may help you meet user needs
better.
iii. The Web provides a longer collection of links about human factors interface
design and usability issues specific to World Wide Web developments.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

In a research of this multitude, limitation is bound to present itself. The following were the
problems encountered by the researcher in the course of this project.

3
i. Financial constraint: The researcher was faced with great financial constraint
which affected the research work negatively. The researcher was confined within
a definite arena for information and could not obtain further information from distant
source.
ii. Lack of research centred: Related and reliable materials from which information
can be obtained are very scanty as the library does not have recent and more
sophisticated materials such as books, encyclopedia, video and audio in stock.
This constituted an intermediate delay in the research work.
iii. Lack of incorporative attitudes of some students: The researcher faced with a
great lack of responses from the student especially in terms of giving out their
photograph, most of the were complaining of their outfit and some said they don’t
like taking photograph.
iv. Power outage: The researcher encountered a problem of adequate power supply
during the period of this research work.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This system is limited to student profiles of graduating students at computer science
department of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic Talata Mafara Zamfara State which includes
creating an avenue for profile random retrieval access.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Automation is the use of control systems and information technology to reduce the need
for human work in the production of goods and services. According to Javed et’ al (2008).
It is the technique of making an apparatus, a process, or a system operate automatically.
In the scope of industrialization, automation is a step beyond mechanization, whereas
mechanization provides human operators with machinery to assist them with the
muscular requirement of work, automation greatly decreases the need for human sensory
and mental requirement as well. Automation plays an increasingly important role in the
world economy and in daily experience. The state of being operates automatically,
controlled operation of an apparatus process or system by mechanical or electronic
devices that take the place of human labour. Automation System eliminates the need for
human interference in order to complete a task. Several industries use automated system
to increase production and reduce costs. A common example is an ATM, which can
process banking transaction without a teller. Programmable logic allows the system to
process data and controls it. In computer industry, there are many tasks that do not
require constant human attention. Software can be used to complete a number of different
tasks and automatically post the results bots can be programmed to click objects on the
screen, send messages at preset times or interact on social networks using artificial
intelligence.
COMPUTERIZATION
Computerization can be defined as the conversion of all procedure, a process or
equipment to operate automatically. It also means the technology concerned with the
application of mechanical, electrical and computer based system to operate a system.
The effect of computerization is to increase output which is greater than the existing
production or result. Computer technology includes feedback control, computer process
control, and computer system for planning; data collection and decision making to support
various activities. Computerizations shave the following stages:
i. Problem Identification
ii. Step by step plan
iii. Writing the programs
iv. Testing and Debugging

5
v. Documentation
vi. Maintenance of software problem
REASONS FOR COMPUTERIZATION
The reasons for computerization are:-
i. With computerization, the profile will be economical.
ii. Computerization can save labour
iii. The existing system does not educate learners on how to operate the system
unlike the automated profile.
iv. It makes the existing system more accurate and reliable
v. To reduce high cost of raw materials
vi. To control activities of processing
vii. Some manual profile does not give better design and quality.
ADVANTAGES OF COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM
Computer controlled systems provide advantages that can be categorized into four
distinct groups:
1. Time
2. Money
3. Information management
4. Improved work conditions
PROFILING SYSTEM
One approach was to simply add instructions to the program being analyzed to enable it
to essentially assess itself. This however introduces the undesirable characteristic of
invasiveness wherein the possibility arose that necessary change for profiling may
introduce changes to the dynamics of the very thing one is attempting to measure. Yet
another approach to providing for profiling was to develop external specialized hardware
monitors. However, this approach also entailed numerous drawbacks, not the least of
which was the expense associated with development of such specialized hardware and
questions of feasibility in even doing so.

6
METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION
1. Interview method
This is the face to face communication between the interviewer and the
respondent. It is the most widely and efficient used fact findings techniques during
interview, fact about the existing system operation can be obtained by asking
question and taken notes of responses.
2. Observation method
This is the kind of method that is normally carried out by observation and then
written report on what has been observed.
3. Questionnaire method
This is the type of method used to collect data; it is also a process of printing
questionnaire and distributing it to the case study together all necessary
information needed for the purpose of this study, the researcher used
questionnaire and interview methods in collecting data.
DATA COLLECTION
Data collection is ‘’the process of collecting data through the use of one or more of the
methods explained in the above.
There are basically three sources of Data collection namely:
1. Primary source of Data collection
2. Secondary source of Data collection
3. Tertiary source of Data collection
i. Primary source: These are sources that are original, unfiltered work of people,
they contain first class information.
ii. Secondary source: These are source of information that have been primarily
modified, interpreted and evaluated by a second party.
iii. Tertiary source: There are source that are trice removed from the original data
collected.

7
OVERVIEW OF THE EXISTING SYSTEM
The research conducted shows that virtually all profile including graduating students
profile in HND II computer science department uses the manual system in producing and
keeping records of the information of all students.
The work of the producer of the profile is strenuous because he needs to find much paper
and be careful when typing the profile so as not to make mistake when adding the colour
combination to the photo album. The manual records of operation are difficult for producer
to put some slides design and edit the profiles in case there are mistakes after printing.
SUMMARY
Employing the conventional method of making student profile keeping record is no longer
adequate in this age, given the technological, information and electronic advancement in
various fields of life. It is necessary to move from the erstwhile old system to new
electronic systems that are move effective. In this case, the possibility of making keeping
student profile electronically or online become real and available.
The electronic making of keeping student profile will save time effort and energy as well
as expenses. It will also mean more accuracy and reliability for student, department and
entire school management.
This system had limited resources and time for development. This is why the researcher
decided to summarize the conclusion and recommendation
CONCLUSION
The major finding of this research reveals the extent to which the computerized student
profiles would enhance and enliven the functionality of the manual system of profile and
photo album.
It is hoped that, if the new system of profiles (computerized) is properly harnessed, it
would tremendously eliminate some of the problems associated with the manual system
stated earlier.

8
RECOMMENDATION
The researcher recommends that the entire student of computer science (graduating
student) be encouraged to system.

There should be a prompt transition, where the old system should completely be replaced
by the new system.
The department annual profile which comprises both students and lecturers data should
also be processed using this system.
Other departments different from computer science can also adopt this computerized
profiling system.
In using this software, the recommended browser is Mozilla Firefox one needed when
working with HTML because it is faster in running HTML offline.
