Philosophical Paper

When I enrolled in this education class, I thought it was just going to be those typical

college lectures that are generalized in media. I walked in expecting just listening, reading the

textbook, take my final exam and be done with the class. I was obviously wrong. I would have

never thought that this education class would be one of my favorite classes so far since there is a

lot of interaction in discussions with peers and the professor. Even though I don’t fully apply

myself into the discussion at times, I still actively listen with an open mind to every one of my

peers’ thoughts and opinions.

As time passes by in my education class, I seem to grow more and more intuitive into my

professor’s lessons. In this intro to secondary education class, I have learned a lot of astounding

information in terms of school policy and teaching fields. There are some subjects that I learned

that it would be hard to find out by another student who wasn’t taking this education class. For

example, one lecture that I probably will not forget. It was a lecture about how some teachers all

around the country (and perhaps the entire world) treat and undermine students who may have a

learning disability in the classroom. It presented that there are many disadvantages that many

educators around the world don’t recognize. It also showcased many different techniques one

future educator can incorporate into their future teaching lessons. All in all, my intro to

secondary education class has been nothing but great things. I am looking forward to teaching

my own classroom soon than when I first began my college courses.

If one wants to become a great teacher for their future students, one must set goals and

expectations for themselves and their future pupils. I strongly think that education is an exclusive

involvement for every student who enters any classroom. Of course, there are always going to be

good and bad schools that unfortunately hinder the students’ opportunities and abilities at times.

In order for students to fully grasp the benefits from what their school offers, I believe that

teachers must comprehend the significance of their jobs. If you ask every caring teacher, I can

guarantee you that they will absolutely agree with the statement that teaching is a lifestyle. One

cannot see their teaching career as a mere forty-hour week job because an educator’s goal is to

incorporate more than the subject being taught. Now, with that being stated, I believe that

providing quality education to each individual student by a very well-prepared teacher who

equips children with the tools necessary for success in life.

In making the decision of becoming a teacher, I had to make the commitment not only to

myself but for my future students to push them for greatness academically, and as well to be a

good prominent individual in society. I as a future teacher and through the help of my intro to

secondary education realized that I must keep an open mind and frequently collaborate with my

peers and students. To teach in this century will be challenging with the growing political and

racial tensions going on. I as well plant to commit myself to provide honest, well-rounded

education to every student I encounter.

When it comes to the philosophy of teaching, I strongly believe that any student, despite

their age, can learn and the absolute right to a quality education. Anyone, regardless of gender,

race, ethnicity, and capabilities should the best opportunity to learn from well informed teaches

who are knowledgeable both in their area of experience and of course life. Of course, that will

only be possible in a perfect world and we all know it’s not this one, hence what good is a good

education with no direction, it’s like having the right to vote with no one to vote for in an

election.

In terms of my field observation experience, I think that the experience made me realize

that I do want to teach the future students of this country. Even if statistically speaking, I will not

be able to reach all my future students effectively, I will do my absolute best to direct them to the

right direction and in pursuit of their happiness and aspirations. In 5 years, I see myself starting

my first class as I will have recently acquired a higher degree in education. I plan on educating

high school seniors who are venturing out into the real world. While I was observing at Rancho

high school, I realized that I want to influence more of the minority population here in Nevada or

anywhere my future takes me.

I want to strongly influence my people of color who have been gentrified into their

neighborhood and made to believe that there is nothing they can do to live better lives than their

parents and their neighbors. At Rancho, is where I noticed that there are students who would

benefit from a teacher of color such as myself. As a Hispanic, one doesn’t see a lot of Hispanics

in the education field. I then realized that I need to be a teacher because as a minority, I can make

a big impact on students by having a strong connection. I believe that I can offer a lot to this

profession. Ever since I’ve been going to school, I’ve noticed that there are not that many

minority teachers. Since I will be a Hispanic teacher, I am most certain that I’ll understand that

I’m not in the regular majority of people and know how to guide myself through it all. I believe

that this will perfectly mesh with students of all ethnicities who themselves are trying to find

their identity in society.
