human character, and a tritone represents a supernatural character. He goes
through the trouble of citing an extensive number of excerpts from The Firebird
Suite to explain how these two facts contextualize a lot of Stravinsky’s
compositional choices. This sort of information is key for musicians who want
to interpret this music with the knowledge of why Stravinsky made the
compositional choices that he did.
