STANDARD: (PA Common Core):


 CC.1.4.K.B - Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to focus on one
specific topic.
 CC.1.4.K.M - Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose narratives
that describe real or imagined experiences or events.

I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes)


● Students will be able to illustrate a picture of something that happened to them.

A. Introduction/Hook –
 Tell the students that today they are going to get to work in their writing journals to help them
become great writers!
 Our focus today is going to be drawing a picture.

B. Development –
 Show the students a book
o Review that the author writes the words and the illustrator draws the pictures both
to share their ideas with you.
o For example this author wrote about ___________.
 Today I want to teach you how to draw and write about something that really happened in
your life!
o The day my family got a dog
 Model drawing a picture about your life event (getting a dog).
o Talk aloud while you draw about what you are drawing.
 Then have students draw a life event they have had in their journals (a memory).
C. Closure –
 Have students partner up and share what they drew about today.
 Today and every day I would like for you to work on using your pictures and words to
share your ideas for others to see and hear!

II. Assessment/Evaluation plan


1. Formative
 Look at students work once it is completed and ask them what they drew about to see if their
words match their image.
