COMMON CLASSROOM PROBLEMS

The classroom environment is extremely important for students and for

teachers. Everything from the color of the walls to the arrangement of the desks send

impressions to students and can affect the way a student learned. The emotional

environment will also affect the learning environment and how well a student receives

the instruction because once the student feel the warm atmosphere inside the class

the very nature of learning will be maximized.

Throughout my journey as a student teacher, I discovered a lot of things and

learned many things in my practice teaching experience. There are good and bad

things I experienced from the school but I did not look at it as a hindrance but more of

a challenge. I knew that every school had bad and good sides but in every struggles

and difficulty, there is always a learning that I will gain through that experiences. The

classroom is a place where individuals grow, develop and explore their future

interests. Establishing a positive classroom environment is necessary in order to

have a successful class where students are respectful of themselves and others,

having fun while learning and are safe and comfortable. This factor will help reduce

the risk of conflicts and outbursts in the classroom but I could not tell what will

happen, there were still problems that may occur depending on those situations.

Based on what I have observed during my practice teaching experience, there are a

lot of unnecessary things or problems that were happening inside the classroom in

my cooperating school.

One of the biggest problems that I encountered was the students’ behavior.

Even if it was a Catholic school, I noticed that the attitude of some students there

was somewhat different for a Catholic school. There were a lot of students who

always cursed and do bad habits. Other issues are students who did not want to

participate for various reasons. Also, there are students being unprepared for school

without having any resources or having homework done. Another problem was the
lack of parental cooperation. Many parents lack the guidance to their kids. It was a

great help to student success if parents were able to guide their kids well. There were

times that parents start attacking and doubting some teachers there when they hear

complaints from their kids against the teacher. I expected that because I was in

private school meaning, parents there are more aggressive, overprotective and like

to defend their kids without knowing their child’s behavior inside the class. The third

problem that I observed was the teachers who are teaching there. I noticed that the

relationship amongst the faculty teachers was not good. There are a lot of issues

going there between some teachers that were very disturbing because it sometimes

created a conflict. They became unprofessional with their own personal issues to

each other. Also, another problem with some teachers there was their way of

teaching and their lack of knowledge about education. Frankly speaking, it seemed

that they are not experienced teachers because on how they handle a class and how

they teach in front of their students. Lastly, I noticed that the school system was not

fully structured and not aligned properly to the curriculum of every school. There are

staffs that were not fitted to their job and were not able to do their job well.

Another difficult problem that I encountered in my practice teaching

experience is how to create and maintain a good classroom setup. It is very

important to have a good and balance atmospheric classroom conditions because it

will have greater impact to students' learning and performance that is why as future

teacher I should always be mindful with that. Besides, creating a positive learning

environment is essential for success in the classroom because once the students feel

welcome and feels accepted then they will love to learn more. Classrooms should

represent the students equally and everyone should know each other’s name,

teachers who use humor in the classroom also create more positive environments.

The classroom environment plays a vital role in the teaching and learning process. A

classroom that is conducive for learning can affect students’ performances. With that
being said, every school should maintain peace, harmony and good atmospheric

conditions and should always make room for improvements.

Classrooms should be a place where students feel respected and feel their

contributions matters. No student should be singled out or secluded in the classroom.

Every student should feel accepted, wanted and respected.
