Blue Centaur, Inc. is an artistic collaboration between Amalia and Cristobal Castro, two
passionate and highly educated artists who were brought together by their love of art.
The couple began their adventure together in Bogotá, Colombia when Amalia was a fine arts major
and Cristobal was one of the most celebrated young artists in Colombia. At the social club both
families attended, their mothers met and decided the children should meet. Amalia came home from
class one day only to find “my hero sitting in my house. I was speechless!” The two have been together
ever since. Cristobal was a part of Amalia’s thesis for her Master of Fine Arts degree at University Los
Andes (Bogotá). When she completed her masters studies in communications they married. Educated
at the prestigious Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Visuels, La Cambre, in Brussels, Belgium, where
he studied farrier arts and metal sculpture, Cristobal worked on many horses of varying disciplines
while pursuing his art. A jumper rider himself, he understands the importance of balance in the feet
enabling the horse to achieve its full potential. Attracted to Ocala by the diverse horse community,
Cristobal and Amalia set up Blue Centaur as an outlet for their creative endeavors. The logo for Blue
Centaur was created by Cristobal’s father, an architect and graphics artist, and was inspired by the
“Blue Rider” Expressionists movement in Europe. “When my father gave us the design, it was a very
important moment for us.” It was a culmination of their passion for horses, art and family. Cristobal:
“There is no difference between what I do as a horse shoer and what I do as an artist. Art is solving a
problem, and for me, that is what I am interested in.” Amalia: “We do so many things together. He
nurtures my work. I nurture his. The creative process is very important to us both.” Cristobal’s works
have been exhibited in Colombia, Belgium and Venezuela, as well as in New York and Florida. Amalia
designs graphics and websites for some of the most prestigious names in the horse community,
including Charles Owen, Grey Fox Farm, Chester Weber and Live Oak International.
