symptom The symptoms induced by Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) are somewhat dependent on
the host plant and may include mosaic, mottling, necrosis, stunting, and leaf rolling
and yellowing of plant tissues. The symptoms are very dependent on the age of the
infected plant, the environmental conditions, the race of the virus, and the genetic
background of the host plant. TMV breeds also infect tomato, sometimes causing poor
yield or deformed fruit, maturity delayed in fruits and with non-uniform color.
Since virus replication is determined by the viral genome instead of the capsid, it is
unlikely that transencapsidation will lead to an expanded host range of a particular
virus.
