Course Description

This is a course planned for the study of and about the use of computer
applications and software in the educational processes. The social impacts of the
use of the internet for educational transaction will be x-rayed. and the integration
of various technology skills development with curriculum application

Objectives:

At the end of the course, students are expected to know the following.

1. The nature & use computer & internet in teaching & hearing.
2. The basic technological skills and its social impact on technological change.
3. The available computer / internet educational resources.
4. Discuss use of computer & internet in distance education.
5. The challenges in applying / using ICT in the classroom.
6. The application of ICT in various disciplines & professional developing as
well as transforming the learning environment.

Course Requirements

Three (3) credits hours and Seventy-five percent (75%) attendance is compulsory
to write examination. Students are required to complete and submit all course
assignments as at when due.

Course Objectives

This course is designed to equip students with relevant skills in the design,
development and production of instructional technology material packages and
devices through individual and group efforts. After completing this course,
students are should be able to:

1. give a detailed explanation of instructional technology materials.

2. classify instructional technology materials.

3. explain technology-based instructional materials

4. identify and describe different types of technology- based instructional


materials.

5. discuss different skills and techniques for the design, development and
production of instructional technology material packages and devices

6. describe and demonstrate the techniques for preparing instructional,


informational and marketing messages using multimedia tools and techniques.

7. showcase how to use these technology-based tools for instruction for


teaching, training and student learning, and for presentation.

8. state the criteria for the selection of appropriate technology-based materials for
different teaching-learning contexts.

9. identify the properties, strengths and weaknesses of digital media in different


learning contexts.

10. identify properties, strength and weaknesses of digital media in various learning
context

11. analyze the use of digital media in different learning contexts or setting
including distance education.

Course Contents
1. Introduction to Technology -Based Materials; (i) Meaning (ii) Types (iii) Uses.

2. Relevance of technology-based instructional materials in teaching and


learning

3. Selecting technology-based instructional materials: factors to consider


in selecting technology -based instructional materials.

4. Analysis of different types of digital media in different teaching-learning


contexts

5. Technology-based materials production: steps involved in the design,


development and production of different types of technology-based materials
such as digital audio, video, PowerPoint, etc.

6. The use of technological tools for instruction, teaching, training and student
learning, and presentation

7. Properties, strengths and weaknesses of digital media in different learning


contexts

8. Challenges in the use and production of technology-based instructional


materials for teaching and learning

9. Practicum in the design, development and production of technology-based


instructional materials

10. Exhibition and critique of individual and group products

11. Revision and end of course activities

12. Examination
