Introduction

A strap footing is a component of a building’s foundation. It is a type of combined

footing, consisting of two or more column footings connected by a concrete beam. This type of

beam is called a strap beam. It is used to help distribute the weight of either heavily or eccentrically

loaded column footings to adjacent footings.

Objective

The objective of this paper is to narrate the whole process undertaken by the students in

making a small scaled strap footing.

To have a deeper knowledge mostly on the construction and also design and analysis of a

strap footing.

Materials

• Hammer • Metal Shaft

• Metal Saw • Vise Grip

• Pliers • Meter

• GI wires • Cutter

• Chip Board • Nail

• Wood Glue
Procedures

1. Planning and brainstorming about the project including the number of members with

measurements needed, scheduling of construction and division of labor.

2. Canvassing and buying of materials.

Construction of Steel works.

3. Cutting of steel shaft as rebar in accordance with the planned measurements.

4. Bending of steel members.

5. Assembling and tying of rebar as per the base, column and strap, respectively.

Construction of Form works.

6. Cutting of chip board members as formworks in accordance with the planned

measurements.

7. Assembling and forming of formworks

Analysis and Conclusion

We have learned a lot throughout the whole process of constructing the small scaled strap

footing. Aside from the technical knowledge we aim and expect to get we also got life lessons,

some of it were sacrifice, hard work, patience, time management, decision making, and teamwork

which we believe are as equal if not more important than other learnings. We can use these

learnings on our way on becoming a qualified with quality engineers.

We have encountered a lot of problems which resulted for us not to finish the works some

of it are wrong measurements, difficulty on bending, lack of instruments and tools and time

allotment on construction.

To sum it all up, with all the mistakes and errors we have encountered with the

corresponding learning in it we realized that not all things goes as planned and also in engineering,

construction is a big part of a project and it does not always go along to what was designed,

analyzed, and planned. So, one must know all these aspects, not just design and analysis but also

construction.
