1. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Mvezo, on 18 july 1918. He was a

South African politician and activist. On April 27, 1994, he was made
the first President of South Africa. Mandela was also the first black
President on his country, South Africa.

His government focused on throwing out the legacy of apartheid by

ending racism, poverty, inequality, and on improving racial understanding
in South Africa. Politically a believer in socialism, he served as the
President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997
and adopted new Constitution of South African in 1996 that prohibits
all discriminations, based on language, religion, handicap and sexual
orientation, not only racism. Internationally, Mandela was the Secretary
General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999.

Mandela was sick for several years during his retirement. He was
hospitalized in late summer of 2013 from a
continuous lung infection.[5] Mandela died on 5 December 2013
in Houghton Estate, Johannesburg from a respiratory tract
infection. He was 95 years old

2. Nikola Tesla was born in the Croatian town of Smiljan on 10 July 1856. He studied
electrical engineering at the Austrian Polytechnic in Graz and later attended the
Charles-Ferdinand University in Prague, so he was an engineer. Unfortunately, his father
died early, and he had to leave the university after completing his studies.

Tesla accepted a job under Tivadar Puskás in a Budapest telegraph company in 1880. He
was later promoted to chief electrician and later engineer for the company. He later
moved to Paris to work for the Continental Edison Company as an engineer.

After moving to New York, United States, Tesla worked for Thomas Alva Edison, but the
two did not get along well. He started working with George Westinghouse in 1885. There,
he devised an electrical distribution system that employed alternating current (AC).

Nikola Tesla continued his research work on electricity generation and turbine design in
his later life. Even at 81, he claimed to have completed a “dynamic theory of gravity” –
something which was never published. He died in New York City of a heart thrombus on 7
January 1943. He was 86 years old.

3. Thomas Edison, an inventor and businessman, was born in Ohio

in 1847. At 13, he was an excellent salesperson selling candy and
newspaper to train passengers. Later, he was the inventor of the
incandescent light bulb, a movie camera, and the phonograph.

Edison was also the owner of many companies, and some of them
are in business today, e.g., General Electric. He was the loving
husband of two wives-Mary Stillwell (1855-1884) and Mina Miller
(1865-1947)-and the father of six children
