Submitted by
Vishnu Sasindran
ABOUT THE COMPANY

 Incorporated on April 2, 1998

 First built LNG terminal in India

Petronet LNG Limited, is one of the fastest growing world-class companies in the
Indian energy sector, has set up the country's first LNG receiving and regasification
terminal at Dahej, Gujarat, and another terminal at Kochi, Kerala. While the Dahej
terminal has a nominal capacity of 15 MMTPA, which is being expanded to 17.5
MMTPA, the Kochi terminal has a capacity of 5 MMTPA. The company is also
exploring suitable opportunities within and outside India to expand its business
presence.Petronet LNG is at the forefront of India's all-out national drive to ensure
the country's energy security in the years to come.

Formed as a Joint Venture by the Government of India to import LNG and set up
LNG terminals in the country, it involves India's leading oil and natural gas industry
players. The main promoters are GAIL (India) Limited (GAIL), Oil & Natural Gas
Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Bharat
Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).

Kochi LNG terminal is situated in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Puthuvypeen
near the entrance to Cochin port, Kerala.

LNG REGASIFICATION

Regasification is a process of converting liquefied natural gas (LNG) at −162 °C

(−260 °F) temperature back to natural gas at atmospheric temperature. LNG
gasification plants can be located on land as well as on floating barges.

LNG STORAGE AND RELOADING

Storage and reloading services are done on both short and long terms

LNG BUNKERING

LNG Bunkering is the practice of providing liquefied natural gas fuel to a ship for
its own consumption. It is this imposition of stricter sulphur content limits to
marine bunker fuel that is driving LNG Bunkering system design as well as the
construction of a LNG fuelling infrastructure.
LNG GASSING UP AND COOLING DOWN

Gassing up and cooling down is a specialized service to displace the inert gas from
the LNG vessel's storage tanks and it is cooled down to cryogenic temperature.

LNG TRUCK LOADING

This facility is available in the terminal for transporting LNG by cryogenic tankers
under the trade name TARAL GAS

LNG- Liquefied Natural Gas

 It is typically methane (90-95%) with other fractions of ethane, butane and

higher hydrocarbons
 It is colourless, odourless, non-toxic and in liquid form~ 45% density of water
 Natural gas is converted into LNG by cooling it to −162 °C , at which point
it becomes liquid
 Cooling process reduces the volume of gas by 600 times, i.e. LNG becomes
1/600 volume of natural gas
 It is flammable only when mixed with air in concentration between 5%-15%
FIRE WATER PUMPING SYSTEM
This unit ensures proper water pumping in case of fire emergency.the system
consists of
 Jockey pumps- 2nos
 Electric pumps- 2nos
 Diesel pumps- 4nos
Initially jockey pump supplies water and as the pressure drops electrical and diesel
pumps starts operating

SCREW COMPRESSOR
There is a two stage screw compressor with a pressure outlet of 8.7kg/cm2. The
entire plant has supply of plant air and instrument air. Instrument air is dry air and
is used in the operation of valves, while plant air contains moisture content.
FLARE
Flare stacks are primarily used for burning off flammable gas released by pressure
relief valves during unplanned over-pressuring of plant equipment.
BOG (Boil of Gas) TREATMENT
BOG refers to the gas vapours which are formed above the surface of LNG in the
storage tanks. These vapours if not treated causes cyclic conversion of LNG in the
tank to vapours which is undesired
BOOST COMPRESSOR
Boost compressor is used to increase the pressure of BOG discharged from BOG
compressor up to the terminal send out heads pressure
 Three stage operation
 Reciprocating type compressor
 7733kg/hr capacity
 Motor speed - 425rpm
 Motor rating – 1350kw
PROCESS
SAFETY AND SECURITY
The company primarily aims to reduce the risks and hazards associated with
handling of LNG with the agenda to safeguard Quality, Health, Society and
Environment (QHSE). Petronet LNG Limited is committed to protect the
Environment and operate and deliver products & services ensuring health, safety and
