IV. Introduction

Paper and plastic bags are useful in our daily lives. Technology brings so much

convenience to our lives including these two articles. But improper disposal of these two

may cause a terrible impact in our environment ad so may be harmful gradually, in our

health.

To mention a few, newspapers, paper and plastic bags are to be reused to save

our earth from collapsing due to negligence of human being as well as extending the lives

of our landfills.

WE SHOULD CONVERT THESE THINGS INTO SOMETHING USEFUL. NOW

IS THE BEST OPPORTUNE TIME TO INITIATE IT.

In this regard, the MAPEH Department, members of the MAPEH Sports Club,

Special Program in Sports class, SPS PTA officers and the chairman of the activity

propose an income generating project which at the same time, contributes to the

restoration of our landfills and save our earth from much further damage.

4
V. Objectives

The objectives of this project are the following:

a. Cooperate with recycling activities to help in keeping our environment green.

b. Develop awareness and participate in worthwhile pursuit.

c. Increase serviceable practice, attitude and standards on effectiveness of work.

d. Show expertise in a simple business.

e. Produce funds for feeding program activity.

PLANNING STAGE

After the approval of the Income Generating Project’s proposal, a trial was done to

imitate the image of the penguin. Materials such as paper, plastic bag, flour, salt and glue

were used. The pictures below show that they need more improvement.
8

As indicated in the plan, elected PTA officers of the class would be helping in the

Income Generating Project. In the recently held Parent-Teachers Conference, the activity

was included in the agenda. Proper dissemination of information was discussed and

agreed upon in the meeting. All stakeholders were willing to lend their hand and are

enthusiastic about the work. Group of students whom I will be working with are also

mentioned to tell their parents how would they participate to the task that would be given.

9
Meeting with the Sports Club Officers and different class presidents was

immediately held to accomplish the planned activities for the month.

10
These are some of the collected papers after the meeting with the Sports Club

Officers and the class presidents.

11
In most offices or institutions like school and other areas, paper are always evident.

Students in school usually consume a lot of paper but some are wasted. This is one of

the objectives of the project, to make this used or unused papers into purpose.

Immediate collection of papers was done to start the project. This is the most significant

portion of the work. Most teachers donated their used papers, others were collected from

the students. The image of the penguin will not be formed without these papers. With

the main concern of the project which is to contribute to the restoration of our landfills and

save our earth from much further damage. The objective of this project turns into reality

which includes recycling and developing awareness and participation in a worthwhile

pursuit. These pieces of papers will soon accomplish a meritorious advocacy.

The first step that we had to do was to orient the working group regarding the

project. Then, we collected used papers from students, teachers or donors who want to

dispose these papers. These will all be crumpled and made into a small ball then covered

with a plastic bag. These group of children were among the core working group of the

project. On free time, during after class, we gathered and started the work.

Students were very cooperative and were willing to participate well with the project.

This was the first time I made the first trial of the image of the penguin; which; evidently

shows that it further needs improvement.

PREPARATION STAGE

With no time to waste, we are on a hurry to accomplish the whole process and

produce even just a number of pieces of the product for this first month of implementation.

Some Saturdays were used in the production in a limited time. Only portions of the project

were assigned to the students. Pictures on the following pages would show how they

participated. The proponent’s work was done and completed. We aim that we could sell

out some of our finished product before the end of the month.

The picture in the next page shows the first part of the procedure after the collection

of papers, forming it into balls. Paper balls are all lined up in a fast and easy manner.

The size should always be the same and crumpled firmly, no space should be left or else

the work would be rejected. 13

Next step was to teach my group the procedure on how to make the penguin paper

mache. Students may participate at the first part which are to form the paper into a ball

and stuff it in a plastic bag. Covering it with two to three layers of paper mache strips and
14
setting it aside to dry.
Guided by the proponent, the students are expected to form the papers into balls

as many as they can for the day.

These were the finished product of our group. These balls are all ready for the

next step.

15
After paper balls were covered with plastic, papers were cut into strips. Other

materials to be used are flour, water and a bit of salt. These were to be mixed in a basin

that will serve as paste for the strip of paper to be placed into the paper balls. About 3

layers of these papers will be added to the ball. After these processes the balls will be

sun dried.

16
In this part, tissue, hot water, flour, glue, baby oil and mixer will be used. First is,

the tissue will be removed from the tube, hot water poured into a basin, from this, the

tissue will be dipped until it is all wet. This will be torn into very small pieces. Flour, baby

oil and glue will be poured and then mixed until it is formed into a clay like form. This can

be set aside and placed into a refrigerator.

17
The sun dried paper balls will then be covered by the clay made from tissue, flour

and glue. This will be done to form the ball that would be the body of the paper mache.

The formed balls will again be sun dried until it is hard enough and be ready for the next

step.

At the next page is the finished hardened balls ready for the next procedure.

18
the finished hardened balls ready for the next procedure

Feet, wings and beak will be formed into the hardened ball. Until all were formed

into an image of a penguin. This will be dried again to be painted.

19
White latex paint will be used to paint the image of the penguin as a first coating.

All parts should be painted.

20
After the white coating, the next to be painted are its beak and feet. This is colored

orange latex paint.

Next part to be painted is the body with black color. These two students helped
21
as they become interested in doing this work. All penguins were lined up as I wait until

the paint dries.

The eyes will be sketched with a pencil. A technical pen will be used to draw the

eyes. Colors of the eyes of a boy penguin and a girl penguin will be different. Green for

the eyes of the boy and blue accented with violet eyelids for the girl.

These will be the result of the eyes painted at the paper mache that is formed into

a penguin. These are the Whimsical Penguin. An interesting project that can be made

by our group and can easily be sold to our target market where children would love to

play with.

IMPLEMENTATION STAGE

During the next months, our group continuously produced a large number of items

to be ready for selling.

24
25
26
Our group was well motivated to produce a large number to be sold. We ready

some products to be sold every month. Parents and other students ask from time to time

if there were available products.

STUDENTS HELPED IN THE PRODUCTION OF PAPER MACHE PENGUIN

31
32
33
These were the students who helped in the production and selling of our finished

project. Everyone enjoyed doing his artwork and gave his best to accomplish his work.

Target stores/persons for marketing the products: The community where the

students themselves reside.

34
35
Students willingly helped in selling the product. They were so amazed with how

the product was done. With its image, people are trying to ask how it was made and

wonder how papers turned into an attractive artwork. Some people would buy to give it

to their friends as a gift or collection.

Marketing strategies employed includes the parents, students and other

individuals’ approval on accepting and pursuing the objectives of the project. They were
36
encouraged including giving equivalent grades to students in every penguin as their

artwork and if they could sell it out through their own hard work. As an additional to this,

their curiosity of how simple things like papers and plastic bags and other materials will

turn out into a nice artwork.
