Zeus and Zoe

WaterRefilling Station

ENGINEER’S REPORT

A. General Information

The Zeus and Zoe Water Refilling Station is owned and managed by Ms. Roan Joy B.
Querol. It is located Quezon St., Poblacion, Antipas, North Cotabato. It is established to
produce potable drinking water for commercial purposes. The water to be produced by
the establishment in 20-liter containers is intended to be sold to clients in Antipas and
the neighbouring areas. The raw water to be used in the process is supplied by the
Antipas Water District which produces good quality water. Still, the quality of the raw
water is tested to ensure that no contaminant has entered the pipeline going into the
purification system and that it conforms to the minimum requirements set by the
Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW). This Water Refilling Station
is intended to produce purified water using the standard multi-stage purification
process.

B. Description of the Water Purification Process

The raw water, which comes from the Antipas Water District, is made to enter a
storage tank and fed into a Multi-Media Depth Sand Filter which removes solid particles up
to 25 microns. The water then passes thru carbon filter media to remove foul taste and
odour, discoloration, chlorine, hydrogen sulphide and other remaining contaminants. It
passes thru softening and conditioning process to convert hard water into soft water and
remove chemicals and pesticides. In this stage, the pH of the water is increased. The next
unit consists of a 5-micron sediment filter and a carbon block filter which removes solid
matters up to 5 microns.

Afterwards, the Reverse Osmosis System is employed. This system utilizes a high quality
semi-permeable membrane that allows only pure water molecules to pass through and pushes
the impure water to the reverse side which is the reject drain line. It has a micron rating of
0.0001 ppm and eliminates up to 98% total dissolved solids (TDS) and dissolved minerals. The
purified product water now goes to the holding tank.

From the holding tank, the water is made to pass thru a carbon block filter. Afterwards,
a 1-micron sediment filter serves as a final filtration before the sterilization process. Water
is then subjected to ultra-violet radiation which systematically destroys the capability of
harmful microorganisms. The purified product water is now safe to drink.

C. Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Points Plan

In order to ensure the safety of the product water that conforms to the criteria
stipulated in the PNSDW, an analysis of the hazards and the critical control points where
contaminants may enter the water purification system is conducted. Below is a plan
summarizing the areas of operation and the hazards critical control points with
corresponding monitoring system and corrective actions that may be instituted in the water
purification system.

E. Maintenance Program
1. Observe cleanliness, inside and outside the store.
2. Sanitize all equipment including flooring of the store.
3. Maintenance of filters:
a. Filters not designed for backwashing should be replaced as the need arises.
b. Filters designed for cleaning should be backwashed regularly.
4. Every morning, after cleaning the store, product water should be flushed at least
3 to 5 minutes.
5. All water storage facilities should be cleaned, drained and sanitized including
pressure tanks and product water tanks.
6. Always keep the brine tank full of salt; each regeneration should use up to 4 kg of
salt.
7. Fill up the daily maintenance form everyday.
8. A regular vermin abatement program shall be maintained.
