a) What advantages do air-operated tools (pneumatic) have over electrically operated tools?
Air tools can operate in areas where other power sources aren’t available, and they can perform a
variety of tasks that electric tools cannot. Also air operated tools are more powerful than electrical
tools.
b) What servicing is required on air tools, and how regularly must it be performed?
Oil your tools regularly and have your tools completely serviced at least once a year.
c) List three items you should check before using an electrically powered tool.
Check the handle and body casing of the tool for cracks or other damage.
If the tool has auxiliary or double handles, check to see that they installed securely.
Inspect cords for defects: check the power cord for cracking, fraying, and other signs of wear or faults
in the cord insulation.
d) What personal safety items should be worn when using drills and grinders?
Goggles, helmets, masks, ear protection, gloves, leather aprons etc.
e) Electrical tools should be fitted with an electrical safety test tag. What information is provided on this
tag?
It provides the information about high voltage and also provides the working precautions. The wording
generally written on safety tag is:- HIGH VOLTAGE, DANGER.
It provides the information of person who tested the machine, company name and date of test.
b) When can a floor jack be used to lift a vehicle from its sill panel?
When the front two wheels are fully off the ground, place two jack stands at the safe lift points on
each side of the car.
c) What damage can occur if a vehicle is incorrectly lifted from a sill panel?

e) Outline some of the benefits associated with using a jack as shown in Figure 1.
High lift can be obtain by less effort and systems run on compressed air do not run out of the air because
there is an endless amount in our atmosphere, which can be used to produce compressed air. Distance
does not limit compressed air. These kind of jack are also having low cost.
f) What are the main benefits associated with using a two-post hoist?
It leaves the suspension hanging, making tire changes easier than 4-post lifts. And also their posts
have been rotated at a thirty-degree angles of each other .So it easy to work under it.
g) When raising or supporting a vehicle, why should components such as lower control arms not be used
as a lifting or supporting location?
Because there may be chances of slipping of vehicle. Which may cause damage to vehicle or injure
human being
h) Explain why hoists, jacks, cranes, chains, straps, shackles or load levelers should be in good operating
condition and are correctly load rated to suit the required task.
Hoists, jacks, cranes, chains, straps, shackles or load levelers should be in good operating condition
and are correctly load rated to suit the required task due to the reason that failing in such conditions
may cause major accident and there can be damage to vehicle and sometimes may cause injuries and
even death.
i) Why should a load leveler be used when lifting an engine with a workshop crane?
This engine load leveler can raise and lower heavy loads of up to 750 kilogram’s. The load can be
attached to the four hooks and the equilibrium can be stabilized or inclined with a crank
handle. Engine load leveler for light and heavy engines. The engine load leveler is an ideal addition to
workshop cranes.
