Science 7
Date: August 6, 2018
Time: 12:30 – 1:30
Section: 7 – Love

I. Learning Competences/Objectives:
The students will
- identify what is an acid and a base.
- familiarize in using a litmus paper.
- investigate the different properties of acids and bases through Learning Stations.
- importance of acids and bases in our daily lives.

III. Methodology
i. Prayer
ii. Checking of Attendance
iii. Review of the Past Lesson
- What is a compounds?
A compound is a substance created when two or more elements combined.
- Give me an examples of compounds.
Students will give their examples of compounds example of the group is salt, sugar,
water, carbon dioxide and so on.
iv. Motivation
- Post some pictures of common household materials. Based on their prior knowledge ask
them to classify these household materials whether it is an acid or a base and why do they
say so.
v. Discussion
- Using the motivation as the spring board for the discussion. The teacher will defined what
is an acid and what is a base.
- An acid is a solution that has an excess Hydrogen (H+), the more hydrogen ion it has the
more acidic the substance. It can
- A base is solution that has an excess (OH-).
- Acids and bases can be found in our homes, ask some students to give their own examples
of acid and base and give them praises after giving their examples.
- An indicator can be used to identify whether a substance is an acid or a base. It is called a
litmus paper.
- Litmus paper is an indicator that changes color whenever it is dipped or a substance is place
on it. An acid can turn a blue litmus paper to red but no change in a red litmus paper. A
base can turn a red litmus paper into blue but no change in a blue litmus paper.
- For the students to identify more properties of an acid and a base they will perform an
experiment.
- The teacher will discuss how the experiment will flow and for the students to be more
systematic in answering the activity.
- Once the students are done in doing the activity they are going to share their results in front
of the class.
- The teacher will discuss the different properties of acids and bases based on the activity
done by the students.
vi. Generalization
- Acids is a solution that has an excess hydrogen, the more excess hydrogen it has the more
acidic the substance, while a base is a solution that has an excess OH ion. It has different
properties, an acid taste sour, it is corrosive and can break down certain substances and it
turns blue litmus paper to red. A base is bitter, slippery, corrosive, it does not react with
metal and it turn red litmus paper to blue.
- Let the students check their groupings of the different household materials they classify
earlier if it is correct or let them reclassify if it is incorrect
vii. Integration
- Acids and bases is not only important in science but in other area like in MAPEH, and TLE
in MAPEH Acids and Bases can be used in first aid for example in cleaning wounds and
for cleaning area infected by wounds, or a person that is poisoned acids and bases is helpful.
In TLE acid and bases is used in agriculture plants reacts with the acidity and basicity of
the soil.

IV. Assessment:
True or False: Write the word TRUE if the statement is true and FALSE if the statement is
incorrect.
1. Acids turns blue litmus paper to red.
2. Lemon is an example of an acid.
3. Acids taste sour.
4. Bitter is the taste of a base
5. Acid is slippery
V. Assignment:
1. What is a Ph Scale?
2. How can we say if the substance is acidic or basic using the Ph scale?
LM. pp.
