Chapter 1 : Introduction

A. Background of the study

Although it is widely believed that economic status is strongly correlated to the academic
achievement of students, the researchers grow curious as to why it has a direct impact to students’
performance in school and how it affects them physically or mentally and whether it affects them
positively or negatively.

We all know that the Philippines is believed to be a country that has high rates of poverty due to
lack of work force but despite the fact that Philippines exhibit poverty, many institutions still produce
grade A students. The researchers are here to find out whether economic status has a relationship to
educational achievement in school.

This research helps to determine how poverty may have an impact to students’ ability to achieve
and for us to know whether it affects them positively or negatively.

B. Statement of the problem

 How does economic status affect the academic status of a student?


 What are the factors of poverty that affects the performance of a student?
 What are the positive and negative effects of poverty to the school performance of a student?
 How does poverty affect the student mentally and physically?

C. Hypothesis

We believe that poverty does not hinder a students’ capability to achieve and that it has a causal
relationship to school works.

D. Significance of the study

 Enables to enhance individual as Asian College students.


 Give certain grand solution to the main problem – socioeconomic status.
 To come up with better if not the best thought to the topic;
 To feel empathy to some Asian College students whom believed that experienced such;
 To examine the real focus of the study and probably see the factors that affects it.
E. Scope and limitation

This study focuses on the relationship between educational achievement and economic status
among Asian College Senior High School students. The data collection will be conducted to the Senior
High School students of Asian College school year 2019-2020 who will represent the population. This
study will not cover other problems that are not consider as one of the Relationship between educational
achievement and economic status. The other students which do not fall as part of Senior High School
students are not within the scope of this research. This study would be done through the utilization of
questionnaire to the students as a survey and reference. By their strategy the researchers will be able to
know the relationship between educational achievement and economic status among Asian College Senior
High School students.
