Practice teaching is fastly approaching. Inclined with this Mrs. Zelda Salinas,
Practice Teaching Coordinator, and the Senior Officers prepared a one day Pre-
deployment and training service seminar with the theme “An oriented person is a self-
fulfilled one.” last, September 25, 2019, Wednesday held at Community College of
Manito, Function Hall, Manito, Albay. The resource speaker for that seminar was Rico S.
Portem, PSDS, In-Charge of Pre-Service Training, DepEd, Albay Division, and Mrs. Marites
Orellana.

I, a fourth year student, acquired a lot of information about the coming practice
teaching. It clears the idea of what I expect from what I should expect in the field of
practice teaching. Sir Rico, one of the resource speaker, tackled the different DepEd
order one of it is the D.O. no. 3s 2007 which is the “Guidelines in the Deployment of Pre-
Service Teachers on Experiential Learning: Field Study and Practice Teaching”. This
order serves as our bible in the field of teaching.

It is also said by Sir Rico that there should only be a three Field Study as stated in
the new curriculum but unfortunately we are still in the old curriculum which has the six
Field Study. In the new curriculum the first Field Study should focuses on observing the
environment of the teaching and learning process, and we should also observe the
how to conduct a faculty meeting and other administrative work of a teacher. The
second FS is on experiencing the teaching field a field study student in this stage should
be now assisting the teacher in preparing the lesson, materials needed in the teaching
learning process. The third, is the practice teaching.

The crucial topic of the seminar that is being tackled is about the Lesson
planning which is briefly discussed by Ma’am Marites Orellana. In her discussion she said
that we, the practice teaching students, are required to make a detailed lesson plans
and we should keep a lesson plan log. Our objectives or set of competencies would be
given by our critic teacher. It is in our part on what should we include in our lesson plan
inclined with the competencies given. We are asked to revisit the principles of teaching
for us to be familiarizes with what should the techniques, strategies and methodologies
to be used. The last part of the lesson plan which is assignment is just a matter of choice.
It is not required for us to give an assignment or if we give an assignment it should be in
connection with the current topic on that specific subject. It serves as an extended
opportunity for learning. Giving assignments for the next topic is a no! no! no! as she
said.

For the last minute of the seminar they suggested that we can download
multiple resources/guides on their website which is the deped.gov.ph. There we could
find how to compute grades, competencies to be used in lesson plans and different
department order that would allow us to become more oriented practice teachers in
the field of teaching.
