Frozen = Most formal communicative style that is often used in respectful
situation or formal ceremonies
c) Activity 2
d) Discussion of the 2nd Style
Formal = Uses formal words and expressions.
Casual: You know what ya need to do? You gotta…
Formal: Would you please allow me to make a suggestion? I think it
might be best to…

Consultative = Used in semi-formal communication and happens in two-way
participation.

Casual = Language between friends. Slang, and vulgarities are normal

Intimate = Used between people who are very close and know each other
quite well. This involves non-verbal communication, such as gesture facial
expression, eye contact and so on.

V. GENERALIZATION
1. What do you think is the purpose of knowing the different types of speech
styles?
2. What might happen if we use a different style in a particular situation?

VI. APPLICATION
Instruction: Identify the type of speech style appropriate for the following
situations.
1. Leading a prayer before meal. A= FROZEN
2. Communicating while playing sports. A= CASUAL
3. One on one conversation with loved one. A= INTIMATE
4. Delivering campaign speeches. A= FORMAL
5. Talking to a counselor or psychiatrist. A= CONSULTATIVE

VII. ASSIGNMENT
Instruction: Identify where the given phrases belong. (Frozen, Formal, Consultative,
Casual, Intimate)
