In the depths of the modern technology that we are indulging nowadays, lies the truth about how

it was developed and became part of people’s everyday lives. The struggles each company,
who are trying to give the people the gift of modern and high technology. In the documentary
I’ve watched, it cited relevant facts and dropped names relating to the issue of the so-called
“browser wars” before. Netscape and Microsoft. Putting it together brings flames and rises
agony to both, who’ve experienced both ups and downs in the industry they’ve taken. I have
always believed that the process of how this companies who are responsible for the web we are
using now, are peaceful and quiet. I believed that they are composed of several code maniac
and intelligent people, who spend their time visualizing different platforms on how to improve the
quality of life on the screen of their own PCs. Little did I know, that they also exploit tactics to
prove that their companies are holding the supremacy in the industry. After watching the video,
I’ve changed some of my perspective at some points.

Microsoft is at its peak of its career, when a rising company evolved before its eyes. Microsoft
believed that are the “lords” in the industry, taking over the world with their inventions of the
web. As this new, uprising company becomes a threat to their supremacy. Netscape developed
something close or even at the same level as Microsoft. I’ve wondered how such young and
intelligent minds bring something to the world like these series of developments. Yet, I’ve
realized that both pioneers and brains of each company, started as young and smart, with the
thirst of developing something new and extraordinary. Proof that even someone who hasn’t
finished school yet, but with enough skill and knowledge can rise above anyone. With the drive
to persevere they can achieve something. Relating to how Microsoft tried and succeeded in
bringing Netscape down, anyone who has the capability and the drive to protect something they
treasure the most, can do anything. Regardless of how it is safe nor legal. But with the tactics
Microsoft and Bill Gates used to successfully bring Netscape down, some boomeranged to
them. There was a lawsuit filed against Microsoft and Gates, himself, resulting for him to step
down on his position as the CEO of Microsoft.

The documentary also cited not just the ceased fire of Microsoft and Netscape, but also the
development of the web as these two companies try to knock each other down. Due to their
eagerness to prove themselves, both companies tried to develop their browsers that lead to new
developments in everything they release. It also pinpointed, that after Netscape has taken down
and the lawsuit involving Microsoft were finished, some companies and developers emerged.
Like, Google. And as of today, many developments, in both PCs and mobile devices are
continuously appearing.

In conclusion, by watching the video “Truth of the Internet: Browser Wars”, it made me realize a
couple of things, both as an individual and a user of the web. It made me realize of how people
continue to strive and expand the capacity of the computing devices developed with their
extraordinary skills and intelligence. Also, how people can be ruthless in the business they are
ruling, to ensure the company where they invested both time and money. I’ve changed my
perspective in some areas while watching the video, in neither a good or bad way. The web,
internet and modern technology we are enjoying today, were results of series of enhancement
of people who did and are still doing their best to give our humanity a gift of new and modern
practical application.
