clean environment and highly recognized by people. But today, both streets are experiencing
changes due to the changing behavior of the people living there. They became undisciplined
that they neglected the importance of the area. Because of that behavior, the Carlos Palanca
Street, the Muelle De La Quinta and the people living around the area are experiencing
problems like security due to lack of CCTVs and working light posts, lack of vegetation and
garbage disposal, lack of designation for ramps, vandalized walls, narrow roads because of the
illegally parked vehicles, vendors occupying the sidewalk, open manholes, clogged drainages
and pollution in water and air especially in the Estero De San Miguel. If these problems are not
solved, it may result into many more problems like diseases and flooding. The purpose of this
research was to know the main problems of the Carlos Palanca Street and how to solve it.

Removal of the illegal parked vehicles because some of those are not even
working, they just put in the area obstructing the Muelle De La Quinta and occupying
almost half of the road.
Extension of the side walk because the Muelle De La Quinta is just a one-way

Synthesis.
The following is the problem in the Carlos Palanca and Muelle De La Quinta
combined and how it is going to be solved.
1. Heat
Everyone is experiencing heat. So, by creating a design solution that reduces the
heat gain in the area. By putting needed shading devices and vegetation in a certain
area like waiting sheds and plant boxes in any area that is experiencing excessive heat. Fig. 18. Photo

Design Concept.
Renascence
Carlos Palanca Street, known for Manila's trading haven because of a lot of commercial
buildings in the area. Having its current state which is problematic because of some change
through time and the changes in the area is quite obvious. The chosen concept is
RENASCENCE. A rebirth or a revival of something that has been dormant. The idea of the
Renascence is to give the users reminiscing experience of the area in a new way by proposing
a biophilic design. The design will connect to the people to the community. The focus of this
project is on the redevelopment of the Carlos Palanca and Muelle De La Quinta and
transforming it into a new sustainable design without touching any existing greeneries.
