II
Preface to the Third Edition
Homeopathic Clinical Repertory
The third editon of The Homeopathic Clinical Repertory was designed to be a complete
rewrite and major upgrade of the Homeopathic Medical Repertory, second edition. My
attempt has always been to create a new and easy-to-use repertory for homeopaths to use
in daily practice, while still remaining accessible for use at home and in the classroom. The
changes made in this 3rd edition comprise my attempts to build on that philosophy. The
Homeopathic Clinical Repertory contains hundreds of new remedies and thousands of new
rubrics in addition to many thousands of updates and additions.
The Homeopathic Clinical Repertory, third edition was updated to be a more clinical,
practical and easy-to-use reference guide to the vast homeopathic materia medica. After
editing the second edition, I continued to add more modern terminology, cross references and
corrected any errors. The final step was to systematically survey the homeopathic literature
for reliable additions. My highest priority was to find more clinical information revelant
to modern homeopathic practice.
The result is the third edition of the Homeopathic Clinical Repertory, which contains 74
chapters, modern terminology and diseases, as well as consistent alphabetical formatting
of chapters, rubrics and sub-rubrics. Over 20,000 new rubrics, and more than 100,000 new
additions and updates, all in a small lightweight book for convenience.

1. Name change: The Homeopathic Clinical Repertory name was the orginal name of the
Homeopathic Medical Repertory back in 1990. The name implies a ‘clinical’ and practical
book, instead of the old hierarchial-theoretical designed repertories based on Kent’s or
Boenninghausen’s repertories. The Homeopathic Clinical Repertory was designed to be the
companion volume to the Clinical Materia Medica.

2. Clinical Repertory Structure: The basic structure of the Clinical Repertory has not been
changed; it's alphabetical-clinical format has been retained. There have, however, been
changes in the number of chapters and the location of few chapters. The 2nd edition had 70
chapters, while the 3rd edition has 74. All chapters/rubrics/subrubrics flow alphabetically
and keep the same position as in the previous edition. In addition, the chapters of the Clinical
Repertory have been re-examined, corrected and updated with more clinical additions. The
new page numbers are due to the new chapters, additions and formatting.

3. Page Headers: All the page and column headers were completely re-done, updated and
corrected. The Clinical Repertory’s page headers will contain, for example: "Mind" in the
middle of the page and rubric titles above each column. Simply stated, the column headers
are elevated to page headers (i.e. dictionary format). One can easily search through the page
headers to get to the page which contains the sought after rubrics.

4. Remedy Gradings: The new remedy gradings for the Clinical Repertory display the
strongest remedies in the following manner:
CALC., (4 points), bold-capitals and underlined
CALC., (3 points), and, bold-capitals-type
calc., (2 points) and bold-italics-type
calc., (1 point). and plain-small-type

5. Clinical Repertory chapters: What follows is an alphabetical list of the 70 chapters from

III
the 2nd edition. Chapters in bold have been altered; the rest have not changed their position.
I have attempted to keep the changes to a minimum for teachers and students alike.

Homeopathic Medical Repertory-2nd edition chapters: Abdomen, Ankles, Arms, Back,

Bladder, Blood, Bones, Brain, Breasts, Breathing, Chest, Children, Chills, Constitutions,
Coughing, Delusions, Diseases, Dreams, Ears, Elbows, Emergency, Environment, Eyes,
Face, Feet, Female, Fevers, Food, Generals, Glands, Hands, Head, Headaches, Hearing,
Heart, Hips, Intestines, Joints, Kidneys, Knees, Larynx, Legs, Limbs, Liver, Lungs, Male,
Mind, Mouth, Muscles, Neck, Nerves, Nose, Pelvis, Perspiration, Pregnancy, Pulse,
Rectum, Shoulders, Skin, Sleep, Stomach, Stool, Teeth, Throat, Tongue, Toxicity, Urine,
Vertigo, Vision and Wrists.

These altered chapters have been renamed and reorganized as follows:

Blood = Clinical, chapter.

Delusions = Mind, chapter.
Diseases = Clinical, chapter.
Emergency = Clinical, chapter.
Environment = Generals, chapter.
Nerves = Clinical, chapter.

Here’s an alphabetical list of the 74 chapters from the 3rd edition. Chapters in bold are new,
the rest have not changed their position. I have attempted to keep the changes to a minimum
for homeopathic practioners, teachers and students.

Homeopathic Clinical Repertory-3rd edition chapters: Abdomen, Ankles, Arms, Back,

Bladder, Bones, Brain, Breasts, Breathing, Cancer, Chest, Children, Chills, Clinical,
Constitutions, Coughing, Dreams, Ears, Elbows, Eyes, Face, Fainting, Feet, Female,
Fevers, Food, Gallbladder, Generals, Glands, Hands, Head, Headaches, Hearing, Heart,
Hips, Intestines, Joints, Kidneys, Knees, Larynx, Legs, Limbs, Liver, Lungs, Male, Mind,
Mouth, Muscles, Neck, Nose, Pelvis, Perspiration, Pregnancy, Pulse, Rectum, Shoulders,
Skin, Sleep, Speech, Spleen, Stomach, Stool, Taste, Teeth, Throat, Time, Tongue, Toxicity,
Urine, Vaccinations, Vertigo, Vision, Weakness, Wrists.

New chapters:

Cancer, Clinical, Fainting, Gallbladder, Speech,

Spleen, Taste, Time, Vaccinations, Weakness.

7. New Clinical Chapter: The Clinical chapter is a merger of the following chapters from the
2nd edition: Blood, Diseases, Emergency and Nerves. All were combined into one, large,
clinical, alphabetical list. This chapter was then updated and edited. The Clinical chapter
contains rubrics covering blood, diseases, disorders, diagnostics, emergencies, nerves,
pathologies and tissue changes.

8. New Rubrics and Additions: The majority of the new additions came from MacRepertory
and ReferenceWorks homeopathic software, produced by Kent Homeopathic Associates.
ReferenceWorks contains hundreds of volumes of homeopathic books, provings and journals.
IV
Additions were also made from Knerr's Repertory and Allen’s Symptoms Index of the
Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.

9. Homeopathic References: The reference list has been expanded and updated. Many
small clinical and therapeutic homeopathic books were consulted for this edition of the
repertory.

10. Homeopathic Remedy List: The Homeopathic Remedies list has been moved to the back
of the book for easy access to the names and abbreviations of the many homeopathic and
herbal remedies used in the book. This expanded list includes the remedy abbreviations used
in the Clinical Repertory and the general homeopathic materia medicas, plus the full latin
names and common names for many homeopathic and herbal remedies. Also, many remedy
abbreviations have been changed in order to make them more consistent with other repertories,
(i.e, the Complete and Synthesis repertories). This general homeopathic remedy list contains
many remedies that are not yet included in this edition of the Clinical Repertory.

11. Word Index: Located at the back of the Clinical Repertory, the word index was also
expanded to include many more clinical conditions and states. This list is used to find
particular words and clinical references such as "hepatitis" or "influenza." Common words
found in most chapters such as "burning," are not emphazied in the word index because they
are easily accessible alphabetically within each chapter, (i.e., "Ankles," "burning").

12. Abbreviations: The abbreviations used in this book are:

agg. = aggravated by, worse from or symptoms increased by.
amel. = ameliorated by, better from or symptoms decreased by.

The response to the Homeopathic Clinical Repertory has been very positive
throughout the past 12 years. This demonstrates the need that has existed for many
years for a completely new clinical repertory format for the homeopathic materia
medicas.

I profoundly thank everyone who has supported this work and I hope this third edi-
tion of the Homeopathic Clinical Repertory will be helpful in the study and practice
of homeopathic medicine, worldwide. I welcome any suggestions for corrections
and improvements that can be put into any future editions of this work.
