Twist on Art

A nationally and internationally known Russian artist, Alla Parsons, brings her view of art to runnels
gallery. Despite all odds, Parsons found a passion in art for Magic Realism.

Parsons started her passion for art when she was a young child and always had a dream to become an
artist. Shortly after she graduated high school Parsons wanted to go to college for art, but this was not
common for women in Russia. Parsons then begin her college career studying history, but she found
herself unhappy.

Parsons soon moved to the United States in 2001 where she followed her passion for art. Parsons
received her Bachelors in Fine Arts from Minnesota State University Moorhead and a Masters of Fine
Arts from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia.

While pursuing her master’s degree Parsons found her passion for magic realism. Magic realism is art
which some mystery or secret seems to be hidden within the subject matter, the objects of everyday life
are emphasized in new and unfamiliar ways.

“Always a story, always a hidden meaning,” said Parsons.

Her art work explores her physical, psychological, and spiritual self. Parsons art work expresses emotions
and stories that have a deeper meaning.
