CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

(1stphase)Mary Immaculate Academy of Loma (MIAL) started as a pre-

school in 2008. It is located at Chrysanthemum Street, Barangay Loma, Biñan City,

Laguna. It is a growing community-based school committed to provide educational

program under the Department of Education of the Philippines. Now a day’s MIAL had

established strong foundation to continue a stable business and after a year they added

grade school up to Grade 6 wherein they gained more students. Like other private

school the way of teaching for the students in MIAL is traditional; they used different

kinds of visual aids like black board, flash cards, drawings, charts and text books for the

students to learn and encouragethem to listen during their lesson hours.

(2ndphase)But in the fast-paced world in education, the curriculum given

by the Department of Education (DepEd) had some changes in the manner of teaching;

it’s more on visual and practical based. And for that, MIAL school is trying to pursue that

way of teaching; a teacher provides illustrations, charts and drawings in the class to

easily derive the lesson to the students. And the students can easily understand and

learned the lessons of the teacher/s.

In some scenario teacher do their lesson plans, write exams, quizzes / activity,

preparepaper hand outs and they also need to do visual aids for their lessons like

drawings, pictures, charts and sometimes they need to buy some modules just to

comply withthe needs of the students.

In case a student is absent, the teacher cannot repeat the lesson that the

studentmissed, the teacher will approach the student and give handouts of the

lessonsforreview.

(3rdphase)And with the help of this LAN BasedE-Learning with Voice

prompt for Grade 3 students of Mary Immaculate Academy the teacher willlesser their

time in doing paper works by using this system .They can input the lesson/s through

typing or scanned the page/s of the book/s then upload it in the system. For exams and

quizzes teacher may input the details according to the lesson/s they inputted in the

system.

In the system, the exams and quizzes scores are automatically generated.

Teachers will no longer do manual checking in test papers and quizzes. Student will

enjoy and learn in this application.

Also, for the students they may enjoy learning with attractive application of

teaching. This system application for learning develops images to streamline and

support learning; empowering students to participate and study. The aim of this system

application for learning is to improve the skills and enhance the ability of all students

with learning difficulties.

This system application also helps the environment; byusing this system

application the school lessens the usage of papers in exams and quizzes thus the

school saves cost in buying bond papers and ink for printing.

CHAPTER 2

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

2.1 Review of Related Literature and Studies

The main aim of this research within the information systems discipline is to

study the effective design, delivery, use and impact of IT in organizations and society.

This work is an example of design research within the information systems discipline.

Design research aims to make use of existing knowledge and theory to construct an

application that improves some situation in E-Learning. In design research it is still

important for a theory to explain a phenomenon, but it is less important than the

instrumental use of a theory to build a system that is efficient and effective in the eyes of

the potential users of the E-Learning system.

E-Learning Management System with Screen Share Technology

Technology ensures quality education for the students and for quality teaching of the

teachers. Modules are given and are very useful for the students and of the teachers.

The computation of the cost and benefit analysis are also provided for the school to

implement the system. The development of this system had gone to different processes

and circumstances. This system ensures that the benefits for the school observe quality

standards and quality assurance. In lieu with this, the proponents recommended that

the company will have a faster internet connection and a person who will maintain or

observe the system for the errors as time goes by for quality satisfaction.

by JC Byungura - 2015

With the emerging use of technological interventions in education, e-learning systems

contribute immensely in educational delivery. However, with substantial efforts from the

Rwandan Government, there were still claims about the lack of online support systems

for thesis process in Rwandan higher education, which significantly affect the quality of

research. Furthermore, previously implementations of e-learning systems at University

of Rwanda have failed because of a low adoption rate. This study follows the

introduction of the learning management system “SciPro” used for supporting

supervisors and students in thesis writing. The purpose of the study was to understand

the adoption of the SciPro System in support of thesis process for bachelor and

master’s programs from a supervisor’s perspective at University of Rwanda (UR). An

embedded case study was used as a research strategy. The Unified Theory of

9

Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) were used as the theoretical frame of

reference for the study. Data was collected from 42 workshop participants using a

questionnaire. Moreover, convenient interviews and participant observations were

conducted at 5 of the 6 colleges during and after system testing. A researcher realized

that the current thesis process is still manual-based and there is no holistic computer

supported system for thesis related activities. Results from correlation analysis and

regression analysis for the questionnaire showed that the facilitating conditions

provided by UR were the key factor that would influence the adoption of SciPro

positively. Effort expectancy perceived by supervisors proved to have a significant

correlation to their Behavioral Intention to use the system. The study also revealed that

there were other factors outside SciPro System, such as management support, Internet

access, lack of a clear ICT policy and E-learning policy; and to motivate innovators and

early adopters that should be considered throughout the implementation process to

enhance adoption.

We should explore the possibility that children at an early age must also be informed if

not exposed to those advancements because they are the foundation of the youth, we

should give them at an early age the overview of things that they will meet in the future.

Some countries put early computer subjects at a young age, customizing the software

to the requirements needed by the youngsters, not to pressure them but to make them

appreciate things that are coming their way.

The function of Interactive Learning System (ILS) to the cognitive development of a

child would be a vital one; it can change a child’s mind. If the ILS will be introduced to

the kindergarten, they might be more excited to learn. The concept of “learning while

having fun” is now a reality. Thru this software, we can now say that not only those

higher grade students will be using the computer, but also the kindergarten pupils.

Kindergarten and technology should meet its way in our community now. It is now time

to enhance the traditional way of learning. We always believe that the foundation of a

great academic success comes from nurtured little minds of children

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to provide Interactive Learning System for Kindergarten that would be

beneficial to their study.

The objective of this study is to enhance the learning capability of the kindergarten

pupils with the use of computer as their tool, specifically with the use of the Interactive

Learning System for Kindergarten.

Philippines might be a little too young to change its phase to give every children the

access to computer in school, but some private schools have been doing it so we

thought of bringing it closer to the society where people cannot afford expensive school

fees, that is why this software is built because it is based on the teacher’s module,

however there are certain hindrance to this, like the small number of computer to be

used, the readiness of the children to be taught such, and the willingness of the school

and community to adapt to this software.

Furthermore, this study aims to answer these questions:

11

• What would be the impact of the Interactive Learning System for Kindergarten to the

children?

• Are the children responding to the use of Interactive Learning System for Kindergarten

as their tool to enhance their learning capability?

• Should the use of same Interactive Learning System be adapted by the school?

• Should other software like this be built in order to revolutionize the learning method of

pre-school children just like what is adapted to higher learning institutions? (Superficial)

Coding Phase

The proponents develop a system application start in coding process; the

proponents use structured programming where the phases are divided into the given

functions which focus on the logical structure and data required by the system

application.

The proponents used VB.net and Bunifu to create and design the system

application. MySQL used as a database in the system application where the data can

store. PHPMyAdmin handle the administration of MySQL with the use of web browser, it

can perform various tasks such as creating, modifying or deleting databases, tables,

fields or rows; executing SQL statements; or managing users and permissions. XAMPP

for transitioning from a local test server to a live server easy as well.

Integration and System Test

Integration test is like the implementation of the system application, in this phase

you allow an opportunity for the users to test all the functions and units to be used if

properly running. Also if there’s a problem in integration it will affect the functions of the

software.

Acceptance Test

Acceptance test for the client will be the final test to implement the system

application. During the software development life cycle, varoius comment of users to

meet their satisfactory needed for the system application. For the final phase it will test

all the functions of the system, this will test if the application meets the standard

operating procedure of the client. Once the test is already completed and the system

application is capable for implementation then the application will be used.

Test Specification in this case more software testing is performed for each module. This

phase execute all the sections that contains subsections for each of modules. Different

types of software testing are performed depending on the project. Testing all parts of

codes such as functions and modules, programmers should test all the modules to be

sure if the modules running appropriately. System integration it will test interface

between modules, system integration testing performed to test if there any unnecessary

error from the units and the software. Acceptance testing you may present the software

and orient the client or the users to determine if the software is acceptable. Also explain

the details and functions of all the modules, you will be seeing if there’s a need revision

after the execution of the software. After all those test researcher may review the test

result.

Implementation

Implementation of the system, researcher used various test to meets the

application correctly and work properly by monitoring the system application for the trial

that will last for a couple of weeks. The system is already installed in school computer

laboratory, orientation must require for the users to know the flow of the system

application.

Maintenance Phase

Maintenance will be updating the units and modules used, which can define by

users. Preventive maintenance of the units must be done every quarterly to check the

efficiency of the system while the students using the system application. Database

backup is also part of the maintenance.

3.2.3 Evaluation

After the various tests completed and conducted, the proponents create an

evaluation survey questionnaire and it will base on the system application.

 Functionality – The system check if they running smoothly.

 Reliability – The software may not crash and can recover if necessary.

 Usability – The system application must be friendly user, easy to

understand and navigate by the users.
