MY LEARNINGS AND REFLECTIONS ON HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

When I enrolled MBA-205-Advanced Human Resource Management, the first thing that
came to my mind is that in this subject we will be discussing about recruitment, hiring,
compensation, career development and even provisions of the Labor Code and so on since during
my undergraduate studies we had again a subject as such and those are the things we tackled,
what I know it would be a boring and purely theoretical discussions, but, on the first day of classes
when we are group for the reporting, my notion about the subject proved me wrong, it somehow
enlightened me that I can say, “Wow! This is great”.
Honestly, I learned a lot from the subject though we had a very limited days for the class,
and of course enjoyed the lessons. First, on the first activity on Stress Management, I am
fortunately force by my group mates to join the activity facilitated by the reporters where we were
blindfolded and in a squat position, with that game or activity I came to realize that, stress now
became a part of the workplace, and it is something that we need to cope up, though we cannot
remove it totally at least we can manage it. With the activity, I can say that in stress management
you have to see yourself, you need to consider your co-employees, you need to consider your
bosses and of course the environment and it must not be blamed to only one person.
Second, on the activity on Performance Management, I enjoyed the skit they presented, it will
make anyone laugh but of course laugh with something significant is assured to remain in one’s
mind. With the activity, I realize that good and effective performance in an organization play a
great role in achieving its mission and goals, since in any organization, its human capital are the
major players in achieving its mission. I can say that performing well is not just about myself and
the reward I can gain after all, rather, it is how well you perform for the team, it is how good you
are in a team and it is how you do with the team, in order for the whole organization to work on
its goals effectively, it is somehow inclusive growth where everyone performs, everyone grows
and everyone are rewarded.
Third, on Training and Development. The facilitators made us work in an activity but we play
significant roles and under some rules, where others play as disables, blind and mute. In my case,
I am blind. At the end of the activity, we were told about the meaning of those roles, and I can say
that it really suits me, the blind role. Blind because I know I am still not that veteran or expert in
the field or in the organization where I am connected with right now, I do still need a lot of trainings,
learnings from the legends in my organization and a continuous career development. What struck
me most about this activity is that we did not make any trade of any of our members for materials
needed in the activity, and I appreciate our leader for saying that, “We will not make any trade,
every member of this group is important.”. In an organization, every human capital is important,
though he/she is playing the role of a disabled, blind and mute, they have special role to play and
significant task to perform, it is not the removal that is needed, but rather it is how the organization
respond to the trainings, learnings and development they need in order to perform well.
To conclude, studying human resource is very interesting because as an employee
myself, you can easily reflect and respond to all its theories and everything. But after this subject,
I can say that what I learned most in human resource management is no about the managing
people, rather it is how well I as a human being work well, interact, communicate, participate,
coordinate have fun and learned with my co-human being. After all, human resources is not about
knowing the theories but how well you know and how well you are with other people, with that I
am sure, every organization can achieve its goals, because unity and being a community is
manifested among and by its human resources.
