# Summer Internship training is Mandatory for all students of II BBA during their
summer vacation which carries two crcdits.
CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEii
While Tamil Nadu State Council of Higher Education (TANSCHE) came fonrvard to introduce CBCS in
allthe affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu in June 2008, St. Xavie/s College had already introduced CBCS as
early as June 2002 for UG courses and June 2OOA for PG courses. The aim of the Choice Based Credit
System is to provide ample choice of subjects to students, based on.the weighted credit point system. This
system offers the learners a chance to match their aptitude and interest with the subjects of theirchoice and
leam at their own pace. Thus St. Xavier's College gives every student an oppoftunity to study his/her respective
c,ourse and pursue other courses from any other discipline simuttaneously.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE RESTRUCTURED CURRICULUM

1, To develop language skills in students through various practical means and methods designed in the
cuniculum
2. To sensitize the students to the social reatities around them with a view to making thern responsible
citizens and other-centred.
3. To develop the personality of the students to be able to realize their potential and to interact with the
society well.
4. To develop an in{epth knowledge in a selected area of theirstudy.
5. To broaden the outlook of the student through interdisciplinary approach, to enable him/her to access
knowledge and use the same meaningfully.
6. To impart an education that promises an integrated growth of knowledge, skills and values and enable the
studentto have confidence and positive outlook.
7. To sensitize them to social realities and prepare them to make this world a better place to live in by
participating wellin the out reach programme (STAND)
STRUCTURE OF UG SYLLABUS UNDER CBCS
The UG syllabus under CBCS consists of five parts:

Non-Major Electives in I & ll semesters will be offered by respective departments to students of other
maJors
The Department of Foundation Courses will offer the following courses :
I Semester Value Education (Religion / Ethics)
I Semester SBE 1 (Personality Development)
ll Semester SBE 2 (Life Skills)
lll Semester SBE 4 (Human Rights & SocialAnatysis)
SBE 3 in ll Semester will be offered by respective departments to their students
sBE 5 in lll semester will be offered by respective departments to students of their majors.
SBE 6 in lV Semester will be offercd by respective departments to other department studentB only.
Environmental studies will be offered in lll semester for all students.
CREDITS
Every paper of study is allotted a particular number of hours per week, based on which credite are
allotted. The successfulcompletion ofa paper enables a student to gain the fullcredit for that paper. Astudent
must earn a minimum of 140 credits to get his/her UG degree. He/She may choose ertra credit courses to
eam more credits. lt is also mandatory that every student involves himself/herBelf in at least one of the extra-
cunicular aclivities for eaming one credit under part v. Four creditB are allotted to the NCC.
EXTRA,CREDIT COURSES

ln order to cater to the diverse needs of students, extra credit courses are conducted by the College.

ln the UG Course at least 6 Extra-Credit Courses (Self - Study / taught) will be ofiered by each
department; these are open to all the UG students. 1 Extra-Credit Course will be ofiared in each s€mester. 3
credits are allotted to 1 Extra-Credit Cource. The duration of Extemal Examination is 3 hourg. The students
who choose the Extra-Credit Courses will register their names in the Ofrice of the Controller of Examinations
before 31{ July in the Odd Semester and 23d December in the Even Semester.

Sludents are expected to enrich their knowledge and develop their skills by joining extra sedit couEes
outside the class hours. This facility enables the students to earn more credits.

EXTERNAL PASSING MINIiIUM U.G

1 From 2011 Batch onwards minimum for a pass is 20150 in the extemal oxamination and 4U10O
in aggregate (intemal + eritemal), papers having both internal & external components for 50 marks

2. The papers having both Theory & Practical components, the minimum for a pass is 4OI1OO in
external Theory exams & 2Ol50 in extemal Practical exams and 8O/2OO for theory exams in
aggregate (internal + extemal) & 40/100 for Praclical exams in aggregate (intemal + extemal).

3. For General English papers, the minimum for a pass is 't 6/40 in extemal theory exams & 4/10 in
external viva voce and 40/100 in aggregate (internal + extemal).
