T1 sets frequency scaling (change this to get a better result with 1V/Oct signals)
T2 sets frequency offset
T3 sets resonance maximum
* can be replaced by a tempco if you want temperature compensation, In that case it is also
possible to mount the tempco over the ssm2044 chip between tp1 and tp2 (leaving R17
unpopulated). Recommended tempco by Fonitronik: PT146 (3500), recommended by
SSM2044 datasheet: Tel Labs Q61 (3600)
Build help:
take a look at the pictures in the muffwiggler thread to get a general idea of the build and
how the 2 pcbs are connected
gently separate the 2 pcbs with a cutter
first start with the lowest components and go step by step higher, something like:
- diodes and resistors
- ic sockets
- beads
- ceramic capacitors
- trimmers
- other capacitors
- power socket
then prepare the component pcb by placing the jacks and pots (you need to cut off a small
metal lid from the pots)
- place the panel before soldering the jacks and pots
- solder the jacks and pots
- remove panel and solder grounds to the jacks if you use kobiconns (btw, you can also
already make ground connections before placing the jacks)
- connect the headers
- clean your solder work and check if you did not make a short between the ground, +12v
and -12v and carefully place the chips
- screw the 2 boards together
- power it on!
Here is a detailed video overview by Shay Shezifi comparing this module with the SSM2044
and the SSI244
If you are using the SSI2144 and you are not satisfied with the resonance control you can take a look
at the following (some users report that it works without issue).
Try to add negative cv offset to the cv resonance input and see in combination with the T3 setting if
this gives you a better resonance range.
If it does, please measure the negative cv offset which works best (in my case it was -2v). This offset
can be hardwired in the module by adding an extra resistor.
in my case this resulted in value of 281k that I included in the build with a 280k resistor.
This is Rfix, and there is a proper place for it on boards v1.4 and up, but for lower versions you need
to implement it in the following way:
