3-2-1 Checking the prerequisites

The presence of prerequisites can be checked by doing the following steps:

1.) Insert the installation disk into the DVD drive or download the zipped file to the ImageVault.
2.) Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to the location where you have the installation files
(typically to the root of the DVD, or alternatively to the media or folder where the files from the
installation DVD have been copied).
The ‘RDCMCheckPrerequisites.exe’ program is in the installation root and not part of Installation
CAB files, so it can be run at any time without the need to run ‘setup.exe’ first.

customer responsibility to verify the latest installed windows components are the recommended
versions by the vendor (Microsoft).
Installation of Desktop Experience windows feature is the most challenging due to possible
missing Windows' prerequisites of the missing RDCM prerequisite.

included customization of RDCM resource files, the installer will need to repeat those customizations
again. A backup copy of the previous resource files has been placed on the system in a folder similar
in name to the example below.

C:\Program Files (x86)\RDCM\RESOURCES.112.00.004

State: COMPLETE - Production parts may not be defined by this document; it is an uneditable finished draft.

Such changes are not typical and repeating the resource file customization is usually not required.

Verification of successful installation

Section 4-1
Verify that the RDCM is running correctly
After you have installed the software following the procedure above, you should verify that the system
is running correctly.

First we will check that the RDCM itself is running:

1.) Navigate with Windows Explorer to the RDCM program folder, by default
C:\Program Files\RDCM\bin
and double click on the file RDCMLogWindow.exe.

State: COMPLETE - Production parts may not be defined by this document; it is an uneditable finished draft.

3
See the GEHC Myworkshop System to determine the status of this document.

Figure 4-1 RDCM Log Window

It is possible that RDCMLogWindow will scroll past the version information before you can view it.
If that happens, an alternative method to verify the installation is to look at the RDCM Logfile.txt and
read from the bottom up to verify the latest RDCM version.

The Log file is located on this path: %Test_Root%\Log\RDCM\logfile.txt

A typical location for this path is: D:\GEHC\ImageVault\User_data\Log\RDCM\logfile.txt

2.) Verify that the RDCM version number is correct, i.e. that the log window contains a message as
indicated below, refer ‘1’ in Figure 4-1.
RDCM(632); RDCMService version=x.x.x.x

3.) Verify that you get only “Info” messages in the log, i.e. no unexpected “Error” or “Warning”
messages.
Refer to Figure 4-1:

- ‘2’ shows the path to the TEMP folder.

RDCM(632); TEMP: S:\TEMP

Verify that the RDCM user account has sufficient permissions
If the RDCM does not have sufficient permissions to a directory, it will manifest it in the RDCM log as
follows (see the red line):

Failure when closing file Access to the path ‘c:\Any folder containing file for RDCM\Image001’

Figure 4-2 Access issue

In the example below, RDCM is failing while trying to close the file.

In this case, the problem was resolved by adding the “Write” permission for account “Network Service”
to the failing directory. Individual system security including domain membership may require advanced
folder permission access:

Check link between RDCM software and Image Vault 5 software
Next, check that the link between the RDCM software and Image Vault 5 software is operative:

1.) Open the Image Vault 5 user interface and log on as Administrator.
2.) Select the top-level tab page Info, then the Service Manager tab in the SERVER INFORMATION
window.
3.) Press the button Restart All.
You will get the following window:

See the GEHC Myworkshop System to determine the status of this document.

4.) Verify that all the services are running as appropriate for the individual system and licensed options.
5.) With every patch and change, you should verify the system is working by performing a system
checkout of services and functions. This checkout is covered in the Image Vault installation manual.

Issue after RDCM update
Previous version of RDCM may have a different product ID in registry which is not overwritten. The
remaining entry is cosmetic and does not affect operation of the product RDCM or Image Vault.

If it is desired to remove the duplicate entry from Control Panel Add Remove Programs follow the
commands below:

1.) To manually clean this, Reg Delete:

Section 5-3
How to change the IP address of RDCM
NOTE: The step below shall be performed after RDCM has been installed.

During RDCM Startup, the following line is displayed in the RDCM log:

Starting server at nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:13900

Depending on the network configuration, RDCM may bind to a different type of address than the one
we want. A typical scenario is a mixed IP v4 and IP v6 network configuration.

By default, RDCM binds to the first available IP v4 address. This behavior can be modified so that
RDCM binds to the second IP v4 address in the list, or to a IP v6 address.

The file to modify is RDCM.res, which by default is located in the C:\Program Files\RDCM\Resources
directory.

Backup the file(s) before any changes are made. An incorrectly formatted line may prevent RDCM from
launching.

It is not important to force RDCM to bind to any one specific IPv4 address. It is only important to modify
this if you want RDCM to bind to a IPv6 address.

1.) Open the file RDCM.res in Notepad.

2.) Locate the [NetworkAdapter] section

3.) Change the line in bold below:

AddressFamily = IPv6 # Supported values: IPv4, IPv6. Default IPv4.

#AddressIndex = 0 # 0 is the first in the list. Default value is 0.

#Port = 13900 #Default port is 13900

State: COMPLETE - Production parts may not be defined by this document; it is an uneditable finished draft.

4.) Save the file.

5.) Restart the RDCM service.
RDCM will now bind to the first available IPv6 address.

The first address in the list corresponds to AddressIndex=0. The leading ‘#’ character means that
the setting is not active. If a setting is not active, like the AddressIndex or Port in this case, the
See the GEHC Myworkshop System to determine the status of this document.

default values (as indicated at the end of the lines) will be used.

6.) Check the RDCM log and repeat the step above by incrementing the value of AddressIndex until
RDCM binds to the correct address.
