Overview
The information presented should follow the format: global reality, national and focal
reality. This means it will start from general or broad ideas and topics while narrowing it down
until such time you will be citing the locale, its problems and a perceivable solution to it.
It must be supported with documents or reference with at least 5 years recency, unless
there is no other reference that you dig which are relevant to the study. You should include your
literature reviews on this part and in any part of the paper where it is applicable. You should
provide as many evidences as possible. When summarizing earlier works, avoid nonessential
details; instead, emphasize pertinent findings, relevant methodological issues, and major
conclusions. Refer the reader to general surveys or research syntheses of the topic if they are
available. You should follow the APA 6 format for citation.
In the business overview, you are attempting to inform the reader about the rationale behind
the business, justifying why your business idea is an relevant to the market. The overview does
not have a strict word limit, but it should be as concise as possible. (Minimum of 1 page and a max
of 3 pages for the overview)
The introduction gives an overall review of the paper but does address a few slightly
different issues from the abstract. It works upon the principle of introducing the topic of the paper
and setting it into a broad context, gradually narrowing down to a research problem, thesis and
hypothesis. A good introduction explains how you mean to solve the research problem and creates
‘leads’ to make the reader want to delve further into your work.

Lean Canvas
(insert your lean canvas here. Include a short introduction that will describe the purpose of lean
canvas)

Company Profile
Write this section on a paragraph format – Use the items below as a guide - Always write on the
“third person”. Example: ABZ Company is in the business of :…
a) About the Company: What business are you in? What do you do?
b) Company History: A Brief description on company’s history and/or reason for the
business
c) About the team: Provide a Brief Bio (20 to 50 words) about the team. This should
include your work designation (ex. Graphic designer, project manager, programmer,
copywriter, etc)
d) Product: A brief description about the product, just mention the type of product

Market Analysis
Describe the overall Market: Briefly describe how the overall market stands at a State and/or
National level, based on what is applicable to your business. Include “Present Condition” its
“Potential for Growth” and the “Business Opportunity” - Include Statistical data to support your
assumption. You need to provide as many evidences as possible.

For example: For an Elderly Care type of business one may state:
According to AgingStats.gov there were just over 90 million people over 60 years of age living in
the United States as of 2004. Within this elderly population, roughly 58% of those living in the
community about 52 million people) are estimated to have some (at least minimal) need for elder
care.

Problems
You should state an overview or a general statement of the problems. This is the foundation
of the entire work and informs the reader exactly what you wish to achieve with the paper, what
you wish to prove or disprove.
1. This section will re-emphasize the problems stated in the overview.
2. The problems narrated in the overview will be re-written in outline format which are
numbered rather than bulleted.
3. The statement of the problem will be written in declarative format.
4. Present specific problems that you are trying to resolve and later will reflect on the
objectives
5. For this part, you can still include reviews of related literatures.

Competition
Competitive Analysis: This is the Best way to conduct an effective “Market Research”
Locate 5 companies that directly compete with your business.
1) Evaluate each of these 5 businesses by visiting their physical location as well as their online
site. Answer the following questions for each competitor:
a) How each of these businesses advertize to their customers
b) Type of customers they focus on (demographics)
c) Evaluate their Product pricing
d) Evaluate their Selling approach (Customer service experience)
e) Evaluate their “Returns” approach (Customer service experience)
f) The Logos, colors, and the look and feel in general

Vision and Mission Statement

The vision/mission statements are clear summaries of where the business is headed. It describes
what the business produces, who products are produced for, and unique business characteristics.
It will reflect the values of the management team and the type of business culture you are trying
to create.

Objectives
You should have an introductory paragraph that states what the stakeholders expect to
achieve by the proposal in general terms. It is the main goal and output that the proposal aims,
which is the development of a business idea that is organization specific. In conjunction it briefly
gives a description of what the business idea is and what it is intended to do or improve. It must
have quantifiable characteristics of the output.
1. Breaking down the general objective into smaller, logically connected parts.
2. The objectives should be consistent with the problems. For example, if there are six
problems, there should also be six objectives.
3. The objectives should be stated in the infinitive of the verb “to be”. Use action verbs
that are specific enough to be evaluated (to determine, to compare, to verify, to
calculate, to describe, to establish). Avoid the use of vague non-action verbs (to
appreciate, to understand, or to study).
4. Arrange the objectives in a coherent way and in a logical sequence;
5. Keep in mind that when the project is evaluated, the results will be compared to the
objectives. If the objectives have not been spelled out clearly, the project cannot be
evaluated.
6. The objectives should be stated in behavioral terms (SMART).
