2) What is the difference betwen monograde and multigrade schooling: Describe the
context at Lonsi Elementary School.

The difference between monograde and multigrade schooling is that a class that
includes children of a solitary class, yet ordinarily of blended capacities is called a
mono-grade class. A multi-grade setting on the other hand - where the situation of Lonsi
Elementary School falls under - , describes a situation where students of various grades
are taught together in a single classroom. In the multi-grade classroom, more time must
be spent in organizing and planning for instruction. This is required to meet the
individual needs of students and successfully monitor student progress.

3) Who is Mr. Saliring? What are his experiences?

Mr. Saliring was the school – in – charge at Lonsi Elementary School since there was
no principal assigned in the area at the moment. He has experienced a lot together with
his colleagues at Lonsi Elementary School. His experiences does not only include his
daily ride on the bumpy and muddy road as he commute, and walks uphill in going to
Lonsi everyday.
As the school – in – charge, he is responsible of handling not only the physical aspect of
the school but also its learners, and the community where the school is located. It
seems that he is aware of the problem of the community where he was assigned which
can be viewed as a good thing because he will know the context of his learners and
how he will handle them.

6) Who is Clifford? Give your insights in 3 sentences.

Clifford was the child who answered that he wants to be a soldier so that he will die
because they have nothing to eat. He may said his answer in a form of a joke but this
indicates of how poverty affects him and so is his ambitions in life. His answer also
shows that the most prominent problem that his barangay faces is poverty.

7) What is the main problem faced by Lonsi Elementary School? Explain in 3

sentences.

The main problem faced by Lonsi Elementary School is poverty. According to the blog,
most of their students are malnourished because there are no food available in their
houses. Some of them would go to school with nothing on their stomach which is why
teachers would offer food to those children who have not eat a meal.

8) What do you think is the purpose of the author in creating and sharing this blog?

From my perspective, the author created and shared to her blog this one of a kind/ one
of a lifetime experience to serve as an eye-opening to our country’s education system.
The quality of our educational system is one of the major problems that our country has
been facing ever since, and this blog has somehow showed that up to this day, there
are schools in the far flung areas that needs much of the government’s support. The
blog has helped to convince its readers that quality education should be viewed as a
national priority rather than focusing on other matter. Even though that the government
has lapses and shortcomings, the people in the school would view that what they give
would benefit everyone and it is already a big help for them.
9) Do you see yourself teaching or working in an area such as Lonsi Elementary
School? Why? Why not?

I see myself teaching in an area such as Lonsi Elementary School because I have plans
on working under DepEd in the future. As what I heard/know some of the newly hired
teachers would be assigned to far – flung areas to teach. An example for me to this
situation was my mom. When she was just starting working at DepEd, she was
assigned to a remote area for a quite some time (even years) before she was assigned
to teach at a school near the town proper.

Picturing this on my mind may seem to be tiring - riding habal-habal on bumpy roads
everyday, dealing with the community’s problem that would affect the learner’s
performance, - but I know that it will all be worth it and satisfying as I wuld be able to
touch the lives of my future students.

10) As an aspiring teacher, what can you do now or later in your career as a response
to Education for Development?

Education is fundamental to development and growth. The human mind makes possible
all development achievements, from health advances and agricultural innovations to
efficient public administration and private sector growth. As an aspiring teacher, what I
can do to as a response to education for development is that I would learn how to
collaborate with my future colleagues, parents, and community that I will be assigned in
order for me to shape supportive experiences to my students not only in school but also
at home. I would also use this opportunity to inspire greater achievement for my future
students, especially those whom education is the only pathway to survival and success.
