Program and Initiatives Coordinator Position

GEM is hiring ​3 Program & Initiatives Coordinators​! Do your friends describe you as a social

you may be our next​ Program & Initiatives Coordinator​. Being a part of the GEM family means
you will connect with a diverse community and meaningfully contribute to growing the
capacity of a youth-led organization, and further develop your skills and knowledge.

About the Girls Empowerment Movement

Since 2013, the Girls Empowerment Movement (GEM) has provided leadership, mentorship
and empowerment opportunities to youth in the Peel Region. As a youth-led organization, we
are dedicated to social change at the grassroots level by creating dialogue and taking action on
issues that matter to youth today. We have hosted 20+ initiatives to date.

Key Responsibilities
★ Works closely with ​Program & Initiatives Directors
★ Supports event coordination including leading activities, researching venues, and
speakers
★ Assists in the brainstorming and write-up of all events including workshop sessions,
speaker bios.
★ Assists in coordinating equipment and all necessary technological needs
★ Assists the team to increase our pool of GEM members, event attendees, and
partnerships
★ Participates in in-person and/or online team meetings on an ongoing basis
★ Collaborates with all members of the GEM team

Requirements and Qualifications

★ Ability to commit 2-5 hours weekly from October 2019-June 2020​.
★ Person who identifies as a young woman, non-binary and/or gender diverse who are
currently attending high school in the Peel Region
★ Passionate about gender equality, youth and community engagement, and
volunteerism
★ Solid knowledge of the local Peel Region community (e.g. school boards, community
services)
★ Some experience with working with teams or clubs in school or the community
