Reflective Teaching Journal for Virtual Tutors

Purpose: Through this reflective teaching journal I will keep a record and monitor what happened through
the lessons. Then I will self-assess my own teaching practice by analyzing, reflecting and setting an action
plan to improve my teaching performance. [Adapted from Richards, J. (1996). Reflective Teaching in Second
Language Classroom. CUP]

Week Reflection Questions

1 What sort of online tools and other resources will I start using to support the students’ learning process?
2 What problems on the platform did I encounter this the week? How did I deal with them?
3 How can I promote the use of L2 in a virtual environment when foreign language acquisition is the main
focus?
4 How effective was the evaluation of the project? What things can be improved regarding assessment of
learning outputs?
5 What changes should I make to my role as a virtual tutor after having received feedback on my teaching
assessment performance?
6 What other foreign language teaching approaches can be implemented in a virtual learning environment to
promote L2 acquisition?
7 How would I evaluate my performance in the videoconferences? How would I describe the performance of
the students?
8 What problems have you encountered in your role as an online language teacher? i.e. Use of different e-
learning tools to promote the practice of language skills, follow-up on special cases, learning difficulties,
being on time with your responsibilities as a tutor, etc. What solutions have you applied for the problems you
have encountered?
9 What changes should I make to my role as a virtual tutor after having received feedback on my teaching
assessment performance?
10 What aspects of a virtual tutor are useful in my development as a language teacher in the classroom?
11 What were the most effective and the least effective units of the online course?
12 What research problem would you formulate if you were to improve something on the English course you
have recently taught?

make things done. There, not only students can discuss

attention and engagement with these resources helps
them to process the information into working memory.
When students meaningfully interact with the
multimedia information, they encode this information
into their long-term memory. This meaningful
interaction might involve learning activities within the
digital resource itself and/or as a lesson that is created
by the teacher.” (Pag. 9,10)

And while it is true that students are more interested in

technology because they use it every day, it is always
important to create an interest for students to use
technology to learn and develop activities better.

For me it became a challenge to improve my skills

with technology since I did not make proper use of
them for my learning and I did not use them to teach.
Since I started the practice as a virtual tutor, I knew
that I had to acquire several skills that would help me
in my process with this practice. For this same reason I
successfully completed my practicum to the virtual
classrooms.
