Unit: FBLA Activity: 11.6

Standards/KuDos
KNOW: Students should know how important it is to be professional in communication with any leaders, specifically
business leaders, of their community.

UNDERSTAND: Students should understand why it is important to be professional in communication with leaders.

BE ABLE TO DO: Students will be able to write a letter and create a digital video inviting a business leader to a local
FBLA chapter meeting.

Pre-Assessment/Formative Assessment Notes

• Students should brainstorm important business leaders in the community.


• Once a list has been created, students should choose or be assigned one business leader to focus on for this
activity.

• Students should research and brainstorm effective ways of professional communication.


• The class should hold a discussion about how to be professional and what it means to be professional in
communication through invitations.

Application Activities

• Now that students have learned about professionalism and been assigned a business leader, they should
research the company the business leader works for and find contact information.
• The student should begin by creating a professional letter in proper business format inviting that leader to a
local FBLA chapter meeting.
• This letter should be turned in to the teacher and looked over before it is sent to the business leader.

• Students should turn their business letter into a digital video production.
• The students may choose what movie maker application they are most comfortable with.
• The video should be professional and contain information about FBLA, the local chapter, the high school, brief
information about the student inviting the leader, and all logistics about the meeting.

• Students should be given the chance to share their videos with the class.
• To reduce the amount of overbooking, the class should vote on the top 5-10 projects.
• Once a vote has been reached, the teacher should approve and allow the student to contact the business
leader with the letter and video they created.

Post Assessment

• Be sure that the students follow up and keep in contact with the business leader.
• All students will be able to submit their letter for credit for the Future Level BAA award.
