MEANING OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

 The term Political Science is the systematic study of the state and the government.
 Political Science is a social science regarding the practice and theory of politics, the
analysis of political systems, and the study of political behavior.
 In general, Political Science is the study of politics. Some particular areas that political
scientists study include public policy, national politics, political theory, international
relations, and comparative politics.

ETYMOLOGICAL DEFINITION

 The word politics has its origins in Ancient Greece. All of the cities in Ancient Greece,
such as Athens, Sparta, and Corinth, were referred to as city-states and the Greek word
for a city-state was polis.

 Politicus was an adjective that was used to describe anything “of the state”.

Purpose and nature of constitution

CONSTITUTION
 Is the most important law of a nation or state because it allocates the distribution
and limiting of powers to its three departments to secure the character and
conception of its government.
NATURE OF CONSTITUTION
 Can be defined as the relationship of the government and its people. Each state
have their own version of Preamble and Articles which makes their constitution
unique. It’s not acceptable to a state to exist without a constitution defining the
relationship of the people who govern the state and people who completed the
state itself.

 Is a preliminary statement which explains in capsule form on what follow. It is an
introduction to the main subject.

We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just
and humane society and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations,
promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and
our posperity the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a
regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate this
Constitution.
