sufficient resources and surplus for its utility, it emphasizes a country is able to independently raise the
required capital to fund its development goals whereas public resources are distributed fairly to all
citizens without discrimination or favor but as a right .Politically, a country is by the rule of law and the
fundamental doctrine of leadership is the consent of the people. Such countries demonstrate continued
government responsiveness to the needs of the people regarded as political equals. Social development
is where social basic services like education ,healthcare ,food and security is adequately provided for so
that majority have access to decency of life, enjoy human integrity and above all what is critical to life is
easily available.

Kenya has continued to suffer from under development in all aspects yet rich in sectors that would be a
drive to development because of

DEPENDENCY-Situation in which some countries expand and develop by conditioning the development
of others. Colonial dependency-socially colonialism entrenched a culture of inferiority complex on
African commodities and a desire for western mannerisms. This informed the behavior of citizens to
consume foreign produce and avoid domestic products. Financial dependency- overreliance on foreign
aid and foreign direct investments which rarely support domestic capital formation. Financial
dependency continues to undermine Kenya’s development because it may be characterized by strict
conditionalities some of which are not in touch with development realities. Technological dependency-
Kenya tends to suffer from poor technology and lack of innovation which would be her backbone to
development.Colonial legacy in Kenya created negative ethnicity, social classes and low political
conceptualization.

POOR AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES

Agriculture is a major source of opportunities for development and countries have developed through it
but not Kenya, she has the worst land ownership inequality and has continued to allow importation of
consumables which flood local markets. She practices seasonal agriculture because of unpredictable rain
patterns and colonialists placed emphasis on cash crops without much attention to food crops.

SOLUTIONS TO KENYA’S DEVELOPEMENT CRISIS

Education restructure to present agriculture as equally competitive for the youth to embrace as
opposed to white collar jobs. Investment in irrigation to claim more and for agriculture. She should tailor
in-built insurance to protect farmers from unintentional losses. Stopping massive importation of
consumables that take away profitable markets for local produce and also undertaking urgent land
reforms to enhance redistribution with growth to reclaim idle land. There is also need for Import
Substitution Industrialization to orient the economy toward greater local manufacturing for the
domestic market.

Also respect to the rule of law is crucial so that there is unilateral decision making in the spirit of the law
promoting accountability, transparency and elimination of negative ethnicity and peaceful conflict
resolution encouraged

Development cannot be transferred whole and neither is it a one path process with a universal marking
scheme, though delayed, Kenya’s development and poverty end can be achieved if the key causes are
addressed.
