History of FAG

FAG Kugelfischer Georg Schäfer AG

is the oldest ball bearing manufacturer in the world,
the pioneer of the rolling bearing industry.

Railway & Transport

For more than 100 years, FAG has been

contributing to the continuous performance
improvement of rolling bearings for rail vehicle
applications.
As early as in the 1920s, speed records were
being set with FAG axlebox bearings. High-speed
trains fitted with FAG bearings were achieving
speeds of more than 200 km/h.
In addition, the development of the polyamide
cages as standard in the axlebox bearing
arrangements used by the German Federal
Railways Deutsche Bahn AG is closely associated
with the name FAG

Angular Contact Ball Bearing
Contact Angle
Contact Angle α = 40°
The axial load carrying capacity is dependent on the contact angle; i.e. the larger
the angle, the higher the load to which the bearing be subjected. Due to the
contact angle of 40°these bearings can support high axial loads.

Internal clearance is for …

ΔD
1. Expansion and contraction of
the inner and outer ring due to
tight fits.
Δd 2. Thermal expansion from heat
generated during operation, but
the key value is the temperature
difference between the inner
and outer ring, not how high the
ΔST temperature.

Bearings Internal Clearance

Clearance
The radial internal clearance applies to bearings with an inner
ring before the bearing is fitted. It is defined as the amount by
which the inner ring can be moved in a radial direction from
one extrem position in relation to the outer ring

n It separates the rolling elements from each other
n It maintains the rolling elements at the same distance from each other
n In bearings where the parts can be separated or swivelled out in

48
Rolling bearing designations
What is the reason for rolling bearing designations
?
If you know the designation, you can save time and money!
Example:
You order a replacement bearing and do not state the correct
designation.

You then receive a bearing of the wrong dimensions and/or the

wrong design.

Result:
You cannot repair your machine
Your production is at a standstill
You have unnnecessary extra work and spend additional wasted
time ordering the correct rolling bearing
