led to increased wai ng mes for rou ne
appointments as slots were saved each day
for urgent problems.
The majority of pa ents phoning for a same
day urgent appointment can be appropri-
ately managed with telephone advice.
By managing the urgent problems more
effec vely we will be able to increase the
number of rou ne appointments and re-
duce wai ng mes.
When you ini ally speak to a doctor or
nurse prac oner on the telephone you will
be offered either an appointment with the
person who can most effec vely deal with
your problem or given an alterna ve op on.
When you call the surgery with an urgent
medical problem the recep onist will offer
you a telephone call back and ask for your
preferred contact number. Please give the
recep onist a brief descrip on of your prob-
lem so that the nurse prac oner or doctor
can give your problem the right a#en on.
A doctor or a nurse prac oner will return
your call within one hour to discuss your
problem. A maximum of two a#empts will be
made to make contact so please stay by your
phone un l contact has been made.
There are a number of op ons as a result of
the call back:
• Advice or treatment without visi ng
the surgery
• An appointment that day to see a
nurse prac oner or doctor
• A future appointment to see a doctor
• If required, an inves ga on such as a
blood test or x-ray may be arranged
before you are seen
• A home visit
We recognise that if you suffer with long term
or complex condi ons you may wish to make
a rou ne appointment with your usual doctor
or prac ce nurse. You may con nue to do this
and as we are able to more effec vely manage
the demand for on the day appointments
Repeat Prescriptions
Repeat prescrip ons will be ready to collect
a-er 2 working days.
We have recently employed prescrip on
clerks to deal with all prescrip ons and re-
lated queries. They will work for 4hrs each
day between 9am and 1pm. In future, all
prescrip on queries will be dealt with by
the prescrip on clerks during these mes
only.
Please note that our strong preference is
for repeat prescrip on requests to be done
online. However, if necessary we will accept
requests in wri ng, by fax, email.
Prescrip ons requests can not be made
over the telephone
