Key Points for the Examination

you arrive in plenty of time to complete the registration process.

 Once you have registered you will be informed of the examination room. Please be at the
examination room at 10.30am each day. The exam will begin once all candidates are sat at
their computers and have logged on.

 The exam will last for three hours. You may only leave the examination after the first 60
minutes or before the last 30 minutes.

 Please be aware that in exceptional circumstances the ORE could be delayed to the following
day. Please make your travel arrangements with this in mind.

 If you have any concerns or problems on the exam day it is very important that you bring
them to the attention of a staff member. This will allow us to resolve any issues. We have
trained technicians available to resolve any technical issues.

 You can find out what to do if you are unwell on or before the days of the exams here:
https://www.gdc-uk.org/professionals/ore/booking-your-exam
The following pages contain important information for before and during the exam. Please read
these instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions for the exams may compromise your
results.
Before The Exam
Accommodation

We regret that we are unable to offer any accommodation information or recommendations. If you
need to make arrangements for your stay you will need to do so independently.

Transport to the exam

The nearest station to the exam is London Bridge. You can plan your journey to the venue using the
Transport for London website at www.tfl.gov.uk
Please make sure you leave plenty of time for your journey to the exams.
There is no parking at the exam centre so we advise that you use public transport.

We recommend that you leave plenty of time for your return journey as there may be unavoidable
delays on the days of the exams. To avoid any problems we advise booking an open return train
ticket for your journey home. We also recommend that you plan to stay in London an extra day after
the exams.

Additional needs

If you have additional needs which could adversely affect your academic performance during
examinations, you can apply for Personalised Assessment Arrangements (PAA). The application
form, which can be requested by emailing oreexams@kcl.ac.uk , must include a supporting
statement from a suitably qualified medical or educational professional. The deadline for PAA
applications is Friday 29th March.

If you require any additional support for any other reason, please let us know in advance of the
examination and we will try to facilitate this. We cannot guarantee that we can accommodate all
special exam arrangement requests. If we are able to accommodate your request please be advised
that your exam time and location may be subject to change.
Registration Process
Proof of identity

All ID should be an official document such as a current passport or driver’s licence and must include:

 Your name – as per your ORE application

 Your date of birth
 Your signature
 A recent photograph.

If you are aware in advance that your Passport/ ID documents will not be available on the day of
your exam, for example if your passport is with the Home Office, you must contact the GDC well in
advance to discuss suitable alternative documents. No candidate will be admitted to the exam
without appropriate ID or prior approval from the GDC.

The risks of turning up without the relevant ID documentation or GDC approval

You will be refused admission and will not eligible for a refund of the examination fee. The attempt
will normally be voided and not count as one of your four.

Registration and Candidate Verification Forms

Before sitting the exam you will need to register. You will need to go to the registration room named
at the start of this letter at 09.00am on both days of the exam.

At registration you will be asked to read and sign a ‘Candidate Verification Form’ outlining the terms
and conditions of the exam. You will need to check your name, date of birth, address, and GDC
reference number on the ‘Candidate Verification Form’. If any of these details are missing or
incorrect please let a member of staff know.

When you sign the form please make sure that your signature matches that on your
passport. Please write your name in full as it appears on your passport, not just your surname or
first name. The GDC will check this form against your initial application form and ID that you
submitted when you applied and will contact you if there are any discrepancies.

You will then hand your GDC form in at the registration desk along with your ID to be checked.

Once approved, you will then be given your ‘Examination Pass’. This will tell you where your exam
will take place and you will need to show the pass in order to enter the exam room. The exam rooms
will open at 10.30am and it is very important that you are there in good time. The exam cannot start
until all candidates are sat at their computers.

There is a café and seating area on the ground floor of New Hunt’s House. Once you have registered,
you can wait here and purchase food before the examination rooms open at 10.30am.

Please note that the GDC will not release your exam results until they are fully satisfied that the
person attending the exam is the person who initially applied.

hand-held electronic devices may be suspended from the exam and will have their results

the exam venue and you will not be allowed to bring these into the exam room.

Electronic Devices (mobile phones/smart watches)

Candidates will be asked to turn off all electronic devices and store them in their bags at the
side/back of the exam room.

Candidates found with electronic devices during the exam may be suspended from the exam and

permitted. If you know that you will need food or drinks during the exam you should contact me
(oreexams@kcl.ac.uk) in advance and make an additional needs request.

Family and friends

Candidates should discourage friends and family from attending or meeting them at the exam centre
while exams are still in progress as they will be turned away and not given permission to wait. Please
arrange to meet friends and family after 2pm, outside the exam centre.
During the exam
Please be advised that computer use during the exam will be monitored closely. The computer
programmes used can be tracked by our IT department. If you are found using other computer
applications during the on-line exam your paper will be discounted and you will be referred to the
GDC for further action.

Please raise your hand and tell an invigilator if you have any computer problems during the exam.
We have trained technicians available to resolve any IT issues.

Your photo ID must be displayed on your desk beside you at all times during the exam.

Toilet breaks are discouraged and you may be required to empty your pockets if you use the
facilities during the exam. Make sure you apply to the GDC for special examination arrangements if
you require excessive toilet breaks.

Should you require a bathroom break during the exam you should alert one of the exam invigilators
by raising your hand. You will then be escorted to the toilets. Bathroom breaks will only be
permitted after the first 60 minutes and before the final 30 minutes of the exam. Normally, only one
candidate at a time is allowed to exit the examination room to use the bathroom. You should not
leave the exam room without informing the invigilators.

Please note there is air conditioning in each of the rooms so please be prepared with extra layers.

If you have any concerns it is very important that you tell an invigilator or a staff member on the day
of the exam and not wait until your results have been published.

After the exam

Finishing the exam

When you have finished the exam please raise your hand for an invigilator to come and check that
your answers have been successfully submitted.

this point, you will have to wait for the end of the examination before you will be permitted to leave.
