Speaking Test

§ The speaking test will be held on Thursday 24 May 2018 (see the schedule to check the time
for each group)

§ There will be no regular class; you will do the speaking test per group.

§ One group will be doing the speaking test in the classroom. You can wait in the hall way while
waiting for your turn.

§ Make sure you come on time for the speaking test. Otherwise, you will not get a mark for
speaking. Remember that speaking test contributes 30% to the total score. If one member in
your group is late, proceed anyway. We don’t have much time to wait around.

§ You will be working in a group of four (see the grouping on the schedule)

§ Although you work in a group, mark is given individually

§ The speaking is assessed based on: Fluency and coherence; pronunciation, grammar and
vocabulary

§ In the first part of the speaking test, I will ask you a simple question like:

• What do you usually have for breakfast?
• Tell me three things you did before you left your house this morning
• Tell me about a good friend of yours.

§ In the second part you will speak with your friends. There will be five possible topics from
which you can choose:
a. Making an arrangement
b. Promoting a product
c. Job interview
d. Giving directions

§ You will be given cue cards like what we usually do in speaking practice in class

§ The length of the speaking will be around 10 minutes
