HIGH VOLTAGE BREAKDOWN TESTERS

(FLASH TESTERS)
WITH DIGITAL METERS

ACCESS 217 0 to 5 KV AC, 0 to 30mA

ACCESS 218 0 to 10 KV AC, 0 to 30mA
ACCESS 217A 0 to 5 KV AC, 0 to 100mA

Trip Current Level Settings in steps

by failure free CT method

ACCESS High Voltage Breakdown Testers are useful for checking breakdown (flash –over) voltages of motors,
transformers, pumps, chokes, coils, switches, connectors, plastics, rubbers, PCB's, insulation materials,
electrical and electronic components etc.
Automatic tripping facility
HT ON and HT OFF Push Switches & visual indications for HT ON & HT OFF on panel
HT ON buzzer with flashing light
HT High Voltage Red safety probe with skirting for safety & Crocodile Clip with wire for return path
Mains ON / Off Switch & Fuse for protection & Power ON indicator
Output HT with zero interlocking for safety
Digital meters for HT Voltage and Leakage Current
TEST VOLTAGE:
0 to 5 KV AC in ACCESS 217 and ACCESS 217A
0 to 10 KV AC in ACCESS 218
Test voltage is displayed on 3.5 digit digital panel meter. Reading accuracy is within ± 5%.

TRIPPING CURRENT LEVELS :

30 mA maximum in steps of 10, 20 & 30 mA in ACCESS 217 and ACCESS 218
100 mA maximum in steps of 25, 50, 100 mA in ACCESS 217A
Tripping current levels in steps as above can be set by front panel control.
Actual value of leakage current is displayed on 3.5 digit digital panel meter. Reading accuracy is within ± 5%
SAFETY FEATURES:
Whenever mains supply of the High Voltage Tester is turned ON, HV remains OFF and is enabled only when
Voltage Control is interlocked back to zero & HT ON push button and only when actual value of leakage
current is less than the tripping current level setting. HT ON indication glows and buzzer sounds when high
voltage is ON. A special HV probe with safety skirt keeps operator's hand away from high voltage. Once high
voltage is tripped, the same remains off until Voltage Control is interlocked back to zero & HT ON push button
is pressed again.
POWER REQUIREMENTS :
230 Volts AC, ±10 %, 50Hz
200 VA in ACCESS 217, 400 VA in ACCESS 218 and 600 VA in ACCESS 217A
SIZE AND WEIGHT :
275 mm (H) × 300 mm (W) × 270mm (D), 12.5, 13 and 15 Kgs approx for ACCESS 217,
ACCESS 218 and ACCESS 217A respectively.
STANDARD ACCESSORIES : Instruction manual
INSTRUCTION TO INSTALL & USE H.V. TEST SET 0-5 KV/AC 30mA.

The unit consists of

1) Control. H.T. Transformer (air cool)

2) CT etc

The following are provided on the back / front panel :

1) Input Cable with 3 Pin Terminal

2)Digital Voltmeter & Ammeter
3) Mains ON Indication Lamp
4) H.T. OFF Lamp
5) H.T. ON Lamp
6) Output Terminal
7) Push button H.T. OFF
8) Push button H.T. ON
9)Variable Auto Transformer for Output Voltage Control
10) Trip Current Level Selector Switch

Working :

Test of H.V. Test Set

1) Connect three core cable to the mains input

2) Short HT terminal and earth terminal by using a wire
3) Bring the Variable Auto Transformer to zero
3) Push the HT ON Push button and HT ON lamp will glow & buzzer will beep
4) Increase Auto Transformer and the unit will trip

This indicates that the H.T. Test set is working satisfactorily. Now the unit is ready for testing the final
product.

1) Now remove the wire shorting HT terminal and earth terminal

2) Connect output of HT transformer to object/product under test.
3) Now bring the variable auto transformer to 0 position
4) Push HT ON button and HT ON lamp will glow & buzzer will beep
5) Now Increase Variable Auto transformer and high voltage will be applied to the object under test
6) In case the object under test passes please decrease the output voltage
7) Push HT off push button to ensure that the voltage to the object/product under test is switched
off
8) Now switch off and disconnect the object under test
