 For two weeks every October, Heswall becomes the centre of the
arts on the Wirral. This year’s Wirral Arts Festival will again be
bringing a variety of music, arts and a bit of science to the town.
You can read more in this month’s edition.
On a more sporty note, Heswall Football Club are really
stepping up and showing their ambition with more community
8 engagement and a tie-up with Tranmere Rovers.
Also in this edition we have news of efforts to make the A540

Town team’s
Tranmere tie-up
There’s a lot happening at Heswall Football Club these days.
The Gayton Park club are moving with the times, developing their community links while attempting
to reach the top of the local leagues.
They have recently gone into partnership with Tranmere Rovers Football Club. Rovers Under 21s use
Heswall’s pitch as part of their development and in return Heswall get to train at Tranmere’s new Sold
Campus facility in the winter and currently have three loan players from Tranmere to enhance their
development.
The 1st team are currently sitting 2nd in the West Cheshire Division 2 table and have a very good
chance of being promoted. Club bosses believe that they should be a West Cheshire 1 club, competing
with good clubs such as Vauxhall Motors, South Liverpool and Mossley Hill with the potential to play in
the North West Counties Division.

Heswall Reserves are a side which has a fantastic managerial group in Symon Stanley and Austin
who are promoting youth through their side and developing these players to play in the future 1st
team. Competing with good sides and good players in West Cheshire 3rd Division. Special mention to
John White who has captained the side and has been pivotal to the success of the young developing
players.
With the vision of Heswall Football Club to be a community club, they have recently gone into
partnership with local charities such as EGO men’s mental health support group who do fantastic
work within the community. The club also works with another partnership charity, A Stroke of Luck,
who help with the rehabilitation through sport to suffers of strokes.
Heswall FC want to thank all the of the volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure the ground is always
clean and comfortable
for all players, coaches,
fans and staff at the
Football Club.

What is the Heswall Hall Community Trust (HHCT)?
The Trust was formed in 2011 to manage Heswall Hall. Its vision is:
• To provide first class facilities for recreational and community activities
• To hire the hall as a venue for weddings, functions, events and business meetings
• To work with other community organisations and public service providers to develop
Heswall Hall into a hub for Heswall.
The Trust is self- financing and relies on the trustees, volunteers and some paid staff to
operate and keep providing the community with a diversity of events and use.

experience and your chance to help make a difference and help invest in the future. Heswall
Hall is all about community and to ensure our community thrives in the future. The trustees
meet monthly and each Trustee is involved in smaller groups to assist in the management.
Jackie Campion who is a local resident and local business owner of Campion Solicitors
became a Trustee in April 2018.
Jackie says “I was initially a bit worried about being a trustee as I was not sure what I could
offer and how much time was required as I work full time. I have never regretted it. The
group of Trustees and volunteers each offer what time and skills they have and there is
something that everyone can contribute. As well as the monthly board meetings, I also help
on the marketing side and as I love the music events I try to volunteer at these events when
I can. Other trustees will concentrate maybe on the financial management and compliance
and others on the maintenance of the Hall and arranging projects such
as the current new toilets being installed. Others on arranging the
events. It is really rewarding to see the results of these combined
efforts and the goodwill in the community. It is also fun and

– but were clear that these were no substitute
for a comprehensive scheme that made
the A540 through Neston safer and more
efficient.
ACTION PLAN
The group elected Phil Lloyd to chair its
meetings, with Ceri Lloyd as secretary - both
of whom are Neston residents and members
of RoadPeace. And it committed itself to some
key actions:
• Maintaining a record of all incidents on the
A540, Quarry Road, Raby Park Road and
Upper Raby Road;
• Obtaining further information on levels of
traffic on the road, including that from the Aldi
Distribution Centre;
• Attending key local authority meetings
in order to ask questions about plans for
improvements to the A540 and possible
sources of cash to carry them out;
• Joining with other campaigns that had
the potential to strengthen the case for
improvements to the A540.
Pauline Fielding, who has been campaigning
for 25 years, welcomed the adoption of Vision
Zero by Cheshire West and Chester Council
– aimed at reducing road deaths to zero in
the local area. Road deaths in the county
more than doubled in the past year to reach
46, while those in London, where the Mayor
adopted Vision Zero in 2017, road deaths have
fallen to 111, the lowest on record. Action is
needed in the county – starting with the A540
in Neston, said Mrs Fielding.
The group will meet again in November and
will be campaigning hard in the meantime.
ACTION 540 chair Phil Lloyd said: “The
campaign to make the A540 safer has gone
up several levels with this meeting of local
action groups. Each of the separate campaigns
deals with a different aspect of the dangers
of the A540; Action 540 will make all of
them even more effective by creating a single
high-profile approach supported by key local
organisations and politicians. The A540 and
its link roads are crucial to Neston - but they
must be made safer and better for all road
users. Too many people have been killed or
injured already; and too much time wasted in
getting improvements. Action is needed now.”
