Review of Related Literature

1. A research by Hess, J. states that there is a significant amount of adolescents that


experience anxiety which greatly affect their wellbeing. Not every student does experience
anxiety but it is a concern with a large enough impact that it is worth addressing. The
researcher also stated that there are different types of anxiety between students and also
different levels of severity. It is also noted that male and female students also experience
anxiety differently just like how different they are in many aspects of life.
2. A study by Yusuph, K. stated that anxiety disorder is categorized into seven but only chose
three of them for the study, particularly, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety
disorder (SAD) and panic disorder. The participants of the study are students from
secondary schools in Tasmania and results have shown that majority of them are frequently
experiencing anxiety disorder. The study concluded that these disorders can be cured
through proper guidance and counselling and a friendly environment.
3. A study by Morales, B., Landa, J. F. and Criollo F. stated that there are different stressors
affecting a student’s performance in school. These includes social environment and
network and social support. Adolescence is a fragile stage of the development of a person
because of the many different changes occurring such as physical, biochemical and social
stages.
4. A study by Dobson, C. focuses on the relationship between anxiety, student achievements,
self-concept, and self-efficacy for students with and without disabilities. The study
concluded that academic anxiety is not limited to students with disabilities and students of
all academic achievement levels suffer from it. Anxiety can also have a negative impact on
the performance of students academically.
5. An article by Minahan, J. states that anxiety impacts a student’s working memory. A
student’s learning capability is affected because anxious students are more likely to work
less efficiently.
