LITERACY focus standard MATH focus standard

CCSS: RL1.5 Students will explain the
difference between books that tell stories
and books that give information.
Vocabulary: fiction, non-fiction, text features
Strategy: students will identify the features of
fiction and non-fiction texts.
This week’s focus text is: Bats
by Elizabeth Carney
CCSS: Operations and Algebraic Thinking
1.OA.3 Apply properties of operations as
strategies to add and subtract.
Example: If 8 + 3 = 11 is known,
then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known.
(Commutative property of addition.)
The order of addends does not change the sum

Important Information:
 Apple Day was a great success! We will have
Habit 2: extra days of apple snacks to share this week.
 We made the September Scholastic Book
Begin With the order goal! I ordered some classroom books,
End in Mind rhyming dominoes, and a few Math and
engineering sets with the points we earned.

Practice Makes Progress: Club KidSight. There will also be hearing and
 Remember yellow folders every day. Dyslexia screening from LCPS staff.
 Practice reading for 15 minutes each night, and
 Remember to send in doctor notes and/or
fill-in star chart in back of yellow folder
written excuses for absences and tardies.

 Walk to school event this Friday, 10/04.
