Case Title: Trading of Longanisa and Tocino in Muslim dominated community

Case Analyst: Earl Timothy O. Malvas

I. Point of View

Longanisa and Pork Tocino were both processed agricultural products that made of ground pork
(for Longanisa) and sliced pork (for Tocino) mixed with sugar that made it taste sweeter and other
preservatives that made it preserved for a long time. Barangay Pulot Center Sofronio Española, Palawan,
is a town populated with Muslims and few Christians living there for many past generations. There were
no Longanisa and Tocino sold there, but there are stalls selling pork. Me as a trader, planned to sell a
Chicken Tocino substitute for Pork Tocino considering for Muslim people.

II. Statement of the Problem

1. How can I sell Pork Tocino and Longanisa in Pulot Center?

2. Why do I need to consider Muslim people?
3. What is/are the proper marketing strategy needed to sell processed meat to Muslim people?

III. Objectives

1. To how to sell Pork Tocino and Longanisa in Pulot Center.

2. To know why do I need to consider Muslim people.
3. To determine what is/are the proper marketing strategy needed to sell processed meat to
Muslim people.

IV. Areas of Consideration

In trading of Pork Tocino and Longanisa, I considered the money for buying all the goods and
materials needed. I considered Muslim people in trading of those products and most of my time for
trading with other stall owners.

V. Alternative course of Action

 Processed Agricultural Products (Longanisa, Chicken Tocino, Pork

Tocino, Hotdogs, etc) were made of meat mixed with preservatives to make it
preserved for a long time. It was consumed by many Filipinos on their breakfast table.
Longanisa and Tocino were taste sweeter than hotdogs and other preserved meat.
 Pork is a culinary name for meat from domestic pig. It is eaten both freshly cooked and
preserved. Curing extends the shelf life of the pork products. Ham, smoked
pork, gammon, bacon and sausage are examples of preserved pork.
 The sale of pork is illegal or severely restricted in Israel and in certain Muslim countries.
 Longanisa refers to sausages flavored with indigenous spices, with each region or
province having its own variation.[3]Among others, Lucban is known for its garlic-laden
longanizas, Guagua for its salty, almost sour, variety. Longanisang hamonado, by
contrast, is known for its distinctively sweet taste.
  Unlike Spanish chorizo, Filipino longanisa can also be made of chicken, beef, or even
tuna. Commercial varieties are made into links, but homemade sausages may be simple
patties.
 Barangay Pulot Center, Sofronio Española Palawan is a town populated of Muslim
people and few Christians. There were no stalls selling that kind of product, but for me
there were also Christians wanted to eat that goods. Considering Muslim people, I will
sell Chicken Tocino, Chicken Hotdogs and Chicken Footlong as substitute in Longanisa
and Pork Tocino.

VI. Conclusion

The result of this project was successful. I conclude that selling processed agricultural products
have many factors need to consider. Especially in selling of Pork Tocino and Longanisa, there were
Muslims and other people who don’t eat that products. That’s why I separate and tell the consumer the
Pork from Chicken for them to be able to buy the product they want.
