Introduction
Please read this document fully before starting on the training materials. This guide will cover the
following topics:

 Prerequisites
 Connecting to Polycom Global Education Network
 Before Starting the Training Materials
 Frequently Ask Questions

Prerequisites
This course makes use of the Polycom Global Education Network environment to provide the lab
infrastructure. In order to successfully work on this environment there are certain pre-requisites which
must be met. Polycom Global Education Network uses the VMware View client which can be
downloaded at (instructions on downloading are later in this document):

Please review and check that the Delegate PC conforms to the following requirements:

1. Delegate PC (or laptop) is running a supported operating system


o Windows (32 / 64-bit)
 Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10
 XP, Vista (download Horizon Client 3.2)
o Mac OS X 10.6.8 or greater
o Linux (only 32-bit system are support)
o Note: Additional OS support, please refer to VMware Client Documentation
2. Support browsers for HTML access
o Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, Mobile Safari, and Firefox
o Note: Refer to VMware HTML Access Documentation for specific browser versions
3. Ability to install software on the delegate PC
4. A working network connection to the Internet
o Ports opened
 TCP/UDP 4172
 TCP 443
 TCP 8443
o Note: Corporate networks (including VPN access) may block these ports so you may
need to submit corporate trouble tickets to open them
 Workaround is try home/public networks to access the lab environments.
Network bandwidth could be slow depending on your service.
5. A screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater

Terms and Definitions


The table below clarifies some terms which are used throughout the training materials:

Term Description
Polycom Global Education A cloud-based virtualized infrastructure used to provide client
Network Environment and server computers for use in lab exercises.
Delegate PC The PC or laptop used by the student (i.e. delegate) for
connecting to the Polycom Global Education Network
environment.

Connecting to the Polycom Global Education Network Environment


Objective
The steps below will guide you through the procedure for conn ecting to the Polycom Global Education
Network Environment. Subsequently, you will be given directions on how to connect to the Entry virtual
machine (VM) in this environment. The Entry VM is used to provide the delegate with access to all the
other VMs on the internal network.

Important Note: Whenever you wish to work on the course materials, you will be expected to connect
to the Polycom Global Education Network environment and the virtual machines using the procedure
described below. The reason for using a specific procedure is that all of the practical’s have been written
with reference to this procedure and the instructions may not work if an alternative method is used.

Estimated time to complete this lab: 15 minutes

What You Will Learn


After completing these steps you will be able to:

 Connect to the lab environment using VMware View client or HTML access

o Choose either the View client method or the HTML method. You cannot use both at the
same time

 Connect to the Entry virtual machine / Test Site

Connect to the Polycom Global Education Network Environment with the View Client

1. On Delegate PC, open a web browser and enter the URL https://mylabs.polycom.com

2. Click on Install VMware Horizon View Client. This redirects you to VMware’s download
web page

a. Download the appropriate client for your PC


b. Install the client. It may require a reboot of the PC. The Connection Server will be
blank after installation

3. Open the Horizon View Client shortcut from the desktop

a. Enter mylabs.polycom.com for the Connection server and click Connect

b. Enter the User name and password provided to you for testing or for the class in
which you are attending
i. The test user and password is provided in the initial communication
ii. The test environment only supports a single connection. Please wait a few
minutes and try it again if the login returned an error
c. Verify the Domain selected is TRAINING and then click Login
d. Verify you see a Desktop selected and click Connect

4. When you have successfully logged-on to the Polycom Global Education Network
environment, you will be presented with the course lab or test environment (Windows
desktop image may be different than the one below)

Connect to the Polycom Global Education Network Environment Using HTML Access

1. On Delegate PC, open a web browser and enter the URL https://mylabs.polycom.com

2. Click on VMware Horizon View HTML Access using a support web browser

3. Enter your assigned username and password and then click Sign In

4. Click the monitor icon to enter your windows lab environment

5. Click Continue to this website (note recommended) link, if prompted

6. Click the X to close the Blast popup box and you are in your lab windows environment

7. To disconnect and logoff of your environment, perform the following:

a. Click the pulldown tab at the top of the browser

b. Click Options (top right corner) and select Disconnect

c. Click Yes to confirm you want to disconnect from this desktop

d. Click the logoff icon from the bar in the upper right corner to invoke the Log Out popup

e. Click Yes to Log Out

Verifying Network Access Using the Test Accounts


Use the test accounts to verify access from your end of the network to the Polycom Global Education
network. Use any of the available accounts to login using the View Client or the HTML access method.
These accounts are available so anyone can test access our network in advanced prior to you course
start date.

Note: If successful, you will be able to using any account assigned for that course. These test accounts
will not allow you to do anything once you are on the remote desktop. You will only see the background
with the Polycom Logo. This only verifies you can access our environment from your location.

Test Accounts:

Passwords are case sensitive, but usernames are not. The character in the username is the number
zero, not the letter ‘O’.

If you are successful, you will see the following desktop background:

You can Logoff after you see this background.

Note: If you have trouble connecting to these test systems, review the Prerequisites section covering
working network connections. If you are on a corporate network and you are having trouble, try testing
from home or public wifi network.

1. What should I do before starting on the training materials?
It is recommended that the delegate print-out a copy of the following documents:

2. What should I do if I have lost my Polycom Global Education Network password?


Send an email to PolycomU@Polycom.com and include mylabs_support@polycom.com

3. I cannot get to the View webpage from the browser?


Verify you typed https in the browser URL field. The URL is https://mylabs.polycom.com

4. What do I enter in the Connection Server field?


Enter mylabs.polycom.com

5. How do I logoff of the View’s Virtual Desktops?


 View Client: Use the Logoff and Disconnect function. This function is located under the Options
menu on the View Toolbar at the top of the windows desktop.

 HTML: The Disconnect and Logoff is a two-step process. You first click Disconnect. Then you
can get the menu bar with the logoff icon. Click the icon to prompt you to Log Out.

6. What if I cannot connect to the View environment?


 Verify that the Internet connection has the ports opened that are listed in the prerequisites (4172
and/or 8443)

 Try multiple attempts (it can take up to 5 to 10 attempts in some cases)

 Test access from a different network (home or public wifi)

7. What if I exceed the maximum login attempts allowed?


 Although you will get the error message if you exceeded the maximum login attempts after 3
unsuccessful tries, you can continue to attempt logins because there are no limits set

 Verify you are typing in the user credentials correctly

 Send an email to mylabs_support@polycom.com and you will be provided new login credentials
