COURSE SYLLABUS

I. Course Description
A. Course Number: Literature 101
B. Course Name: Philippine Literature
C. Course Description: This course stresses on the historical transition of Philippine Literature through representative composition on different
Genres-short stories, poetry, plays and essays for literary absorption and for interpretative analysis to develop interest in the
value on nationality in literature. It also employs reading strategies that will help students draw out insights and value from
literature and appreciate the relevance of studying literature and culture to their lives and to the nation.
D. Credit Unit: 3 Units
E. Contact hours: 3 hours/week
F. Prerequisite: None
G. Course Objectives: 1. Trace the historical transition of Philippine Literature from the Pre-Spanish Period up to present.
2. Characterized the various types of Philippine literature in relation to the particular historical conditions that had produced
them.
3. Become aware on how the Filipino is constituted in Philippine literary texts and legacy.
4. Explain the significant features of the various literary pieces from different periods.
5. Participate in a stage play to give life to certain literary genre.
6. Transform and extend creatively Philippine Literary materials to other artistic expression.

H. Values Integration: Establish strong cooperation and coordination with other group or individual that can be a source of information.
