1 Scope
This procedure outlines the precautions to be taken on SITE during the construction for preservation and
maintenance of permanent materials and equipment of ERC Project.
2 Purpose
To enumerate the precautions and provide methods for assuring that all equipment and materials received on
SITE are maintained in good order and do not deteriorate during the construction period.
3 Responsibilities
The project staff, under direction of Site Manager, is responsible for monitoring the preservation of all
equipment and material during the construction period in accordance with contract requirements and
VENDOR’s recommendations.
4 Procedure
4.1 General
Moreover handling and intermediate transports at SITE of this equipment during the construction period
is likely to decrease the efficiency of this protection. Accordingly this procedure describes the basic
procedures to be applied in order to protect the equipment and materials against deterioration during
storage and construction periods.
Special procedures will be implemented according to climatic conditions prevailing in the storage area.
These procedures will be concerned with the protection of the equipment in damp, cold or dusty
atmosphere.
If required in Vendor’s instruction, internal heaters of electrical equipment will be energized at the
1 designated area where electrical power is available.
4.2 Implementation
When equipment is received, all loose accessories (coupling, studs, gaskets, spares etc.) shall be

Surfaces exposed to corrosion should be protected in order to avoid any oxidation. Usual lubricants (oil
and grease) provide only a slight protection; products made of inhibitors and dampening substances
provide a far better protection. Anti-rust products (vaporized), alkaloid oil or other anti corrosion
products will be vaporized on any surface of the equipment and materials exposed to atmospheric
attacks.
Vapor corrosion inhibitors (VCI) are used to protect the inside part of some mechanical equipment by
some VENDORs.
If vapor corrosion inhibitors (VCI) have been used, the maintenance of vapor joints and the renewal of
the inhibited products will be made in accordance with VENDOR’s instructions.
In the same way, this is worthwhile for the refractory cements of the furnace used in the units when
freezing is expected; the use of heat guns or radiators is recommended in order to avoid deterioration of
refractory products.
Moreover, in the case of inside coated pipes (e.g. smoke flues) handling will require care and use of
1 spreader bars to avoid flexion and cracking of the coating.
All pre-formed tank plates will be placed with concave side up right on saddles so as not to have direct
contact with the soil and will be supported so as not to lose the performed rolling.
Each plate is separated from the previous and the next (upper) by wood spacers. Chamfers are kept
protected against rust, sand erosion and mechanical damage. Proper tools will be used for handling plates.
